BROOKVILLE, NY – Senior Sarah Reed connected for a fifth inning home run to lead the Dolphins past NYIT in the first game of the NCAA Regional on the C.W. Post campus. Freshman Jenna Vanacore picked up the win in the circle as Le Moyne improved their record to 45-9 on the season. NYIT falls to 29-17 and drops into the loser's bracket.
The Bears got on the board in their first at-bat. Lia Lara opened the game with a single off all-conference starter Jenna Vanacore. Following a steal of second, Lara came around to score off a two-out double by Lisa Boystak giving NYIT a 1-0 advantage. The Dolphins responded with one run in the bottom half of the second as Emma Murphy led off with a double to right field. She would later score on a single up the middle by Kimberlee Baker.
Le Moyne took their first lead of the afternoon in the following inning as Danielle VanGorder scored on a defensive throwing error to put the Dolphins up 2-1.
NYIT evened the score in the next half inning at 2-2 as Brilynn Fields scored on a sacrifice bunt by Ashley Gosek.
The 'Phins took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth inning as Sarah Reed connected for her 12th homerun of the season, a blast over the center field wall.
Vanacore earned the win in the circle to improve her record to 14-1 on the season. The freshman pitched six innings, allowed six hits and two runs while striking out three. Junior Jennifer Farrelly pitched a scoreless seventh inning to record her team-high fourth save of the season.
Advancing in the winner bracket, Le Moyne will face sixth-seed Bryant on Thursday at 2:00 PM. This will mark the fourth time these two teams have faced each other in the last five games. Both teams locked up for a three game series last weekend in the NE-10 Championship where the Dolphins captured the program's second tournament championship with a 7-3 victory in the third game.
