Syracuse, N.Y. - Alaura Berry and Alex Kearney each posted 11 kills to lead the Bentley Falcons in a victory over the Le Moyne College volleyball team, 3-1, in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Court.
In the first game, the Falcons held an early advantage as they were able to jump out to a 10-7 start. The Dolphins would come charging back on a 6-0 run, led by the serving of outside hitter Bethany Fabian (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier). Although they kept it close, Bentley would never recapture the lead as the Dolphins won the game, 25-23, anchored by five kills from senior captain Elizabeth Cheek (Huntington Beach, Calif./Rosary).
Bentley bounced back in the second game to even the match at one apiece with a wire-to-wire 25-23 win. Although the Dolphins would take an early lead at 12-8, the Falcons would go on a 16-8 run to put them ahead, 24-20. The Dolphins closed the gap to one at 24-23, but a kill by Andrea Farah would end the Dolphins rally. Â
With the third game tied at 11 apiece, the Falcons gained control of the game with the help of Berry and Kearney, who had a combined nine kills. After a 5-0 spurt by the Falcons made the score 15-11, the Dolphins would get no closer than three points, as Bentley cruised to a 25-20 win.
Le Moyne started strong in game four, gaining a 9-5 advantage over the Falcons. Bentley would then rally with a 9-2 run, led by the serving of Cassie Kraft and the setting of Kelly Mee. The Dolphins would fight back, but they would get no closer than 20-18. The Falcons won the match on a kill by Kearney to take the game 25-21.
Cheeks led the Dolphins in kills with 16, while also registering 12 digs. Outside hitter Krista Prentice (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) posted 11 kills and 7 digs, while Fabian landed 8 kills and had team-highs in digs and service aces, with 13 and 3 respectively. Senior setter Kaylin Brainerd (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) dished out 35 assists, marking the third time this season with at least 35 assists.
The Dolphins close out the regular season on Sunday, November 8, as they host NE-10 opponent Stonehill on Senior Day.
