FARRELLY PITCHES #25 SOFTBALL TO NE-10 SWEEP OF NEW HAVEN, 4-0, 2-1

West Haven, Conn. - Senior Jennifer Farrelly (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) registered two victories and drove in a pair of runs to lead 25th-ranked Le Moyne College to a doubleheader sweep of New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference softball action on Wednesday afternoon on the Chargers' North Campus. The Dolphins took the opener, 4-0, and won the nightcap, 2-1.

The Dolphins opened the scoring in game one with a run on two hits in the second inning. Farrelly singled to lead off the inning, but was retired at second base one batter later on a groundout. Two batters later, freshman Leah Ford (Pulaski, N.Y./Pulaski) singled down the right field line to drive in sophomore catcher Kimberlee Baker (Murrietta, Calif./Murrietta Valley), who reached on a fielder's choice.

In the fourth, the Dolphins tacked on one run on three hits and an error. Senior third baseman Caitlin O'Neill (Pittsford, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) led off the inning with a single. Farrelly followed with a double to left field to move pinch-runner Kate Waltman (Alplaus, N.Y./Niskayuna) to third base. Waltman was then able to score on a New Haven error.

Le Moyne capped the game's scoring with a pair of runs on three hits in the fifth inning. Junior left fielder Bailey Phillips (Rochester, N.Y./Greece-Arcadia) led off the frame with an infield single and stole second base following an out. Junior second baseman Kelly Schweikert (Rochester, N.Y./Spencerport) followed with a single back to the pitcher to move Phillips to third. After Schweikert stole second and the Chargers recorded a strikeout, Farrelly helped her own cause with a single to right field to plate Phillips and Schweikert.

Farrelly picked up her sixth victory of the season by tossing four and two-thirds scoreless innings in relief sophomore Jenna Vanacore (Hicksville, N.Y./Holy Trinity), while registering five strikeouts and limiting the Chargers to just one hit. Vanacore recorded five strikeouts over the opening two and one-third innings. Phillips and Farrelly each registered three of Le Moyne's 12 hits in the game.

Le Moyne got on the board in the first inning in game two, posting a run on a hit and an error. Junior center fielder Danielle VanGorder (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) led off the game with a single. Phillips then reached on an error to move VanGorder to third. Following a pop out, Phillips stole second base, allowing VanGorder to score on the throw down to second.

The Chargers answered back to tie the game at one apiece in the fourth inning on a solo home run by designated player Jessica Medina.

The Dolphins regained the lead with a run on two hits in the sixth inning. Freshman shortstop Barbara Shea (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) singled to left field to open the frame. Following a pop out, Shea stole second and Farrelly walked after a ground out. Pinch-hitter Morgan Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) then singled to center field to drive in Shea from second.

Farrelly registered her second victory of the day by tossing her seventh complete game of the season. The senior righty struck out six batters, while allowing just one run on four hits. VanGorder led the Dolphins at the plate with two hits.

Le Moyne (16-6, NE-10 4-0) returns to action on Thursday at Assumption. First pitch of game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
