SYRACUSE, NY – Senior Brandon Otto (Cicero, NY / CNS) pitched six shutout innings in game two as the Dolphins split a Sunday doubleheader with Bryant University at Dick Rockwell Field. Behind shutout innings by Eric Polvani, Bryant defeated Le Moyne 9-1 in game one. The Dolphin offense awoke in game two to top the Bulldogs 4-1.
In game one, Bryant put two runs on the board in the second inning on an RBI single by Dan Mello and an RBI fielder's choice from Tim Norton. A single by Norton in the fourth plated Jamie Skagerlind for Bryant's third run of the afternoon.
Bryant broke the game open in the eighth innings. Leading 6-0, Norton drove a ball to the left centerfield gap for a double plating Connor Carignan to push the lead to 7-0. The Bulldogs added one more on Dylan Stone's third hit of the afternoon to drive in Norton.
Le Moyne's lone run came in their last licks as Matt Marra (Brewerton, NY / Central Square) singled home Brett Botsford (Baldwinsville, NY / Baldwinsville).
Eric Polvani pitched eight strong innings for Bryant in allowing three hits and striking out two. Tom McDermott took the loss for Le Moyne to even his record to 3-3.
A big two-out double by senior Matt Nandin (North Syracuse, NY / CNS) plated three runs in the bottom of the first to give the Dolphins all they would need to split the doubleheader. Brandon Otto pitched six innings of shutout ball to earn his first win of the season. The senior right-hander struck out eight while allowing only four hits.
Bryant's best opportunity came in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Bulldogs loaded the bases with no outs. Junior Luke Nellis (Fonda, NY / Fonda-Fultonville) got out of trouble to retire Pat O'Connor on strikes to close the door.
With the split, Le Moyne moves to 18-20 on the season. Bryant leaves Syracuse with a 27-17 overall record.
Le Moyne returns to action on Wednesday, April 29th to host Cornell in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.
