Syracuse, N.Y. - Le Moyne College head men's basketball coach Steve Evans announced on Friday, May 29 that high school senior Gamal Mohamed (North Plainfield, N.J./Immaculata) has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball for the Dolphins in 2009-10.
"Gamal can shoot and pass the ball extremely well, he possesses a high basketball IQ and he's led his team to back-to-back state titles," said Evans, who led the Dolphins to 20 wins and a spot in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship game this past season. "He's a fantastic student-athlete in the true sense of the word and does all the things a team needs to win on and off the court. Our program is thrilled to add the final piece to our exciting freshman class."
Mohamed, a six-foot, two-inch forward, averaged 19 points, six rebounds and five assists per game, while earning recognition as the Somerset County and Courier News Player of the Year and Second Team All-State selection during his senior campaign. He also was named MVP of the Non-Public Class A Tournament two straight years.
Mohamed joins Michael Goodman (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and Jim Janson (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) in signing to play for the Dolphins in the 2009-10 season.
