SCHWEIKERT'S GAME-WINNING HIT ADVANCES SOFTBALL IN NCAA REGIONAL

SYRACUSE, NY – Junior Kelly Schweikert (Rochester, NY / Spencerport) was 3-for 4 with three RBI's and a home run to lead top-seeded Le Moyne to a 3-2 victory over Dominican in the first round of the NCAA East Regional. With the win, Dolphins move on to face #4-seed Caldwell on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Dominican will face #5 Dowling in an elimination game at noon.

Ranked #12 in the nation in the latest coaches' poll, Le Moyne (41-10) struck early with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Freshman Kelcie Cashel (Lacona, NY / Sandy Creek) opened the game with a single through the left side and advanced on a Dominican defensive miscue. Schweikert connected for the first of her three hits on the day to drive in Cashel from second, giving Le Moyne the early advantage.

Sophomore Jenna Vanacore (Hicksville, NY / Holy Trinity) dominated the eighth-seeded Chargers early en route to earning her 20th win of the season. Through the first six innings, Vanacore struck out four batters and retired 17 straight batters after yielding two early singles.

Following a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth by Schweikert, Vanacore retired the first two batters in Dominican's last licks. Catcher Nicole Scarillo gave the Chargers life with a home run over the center field wall to cut the Dolphin lead to 2-1. Jamie Ollari kept the rally going doubling to right center. With two outs, Vanacore induced a pop up by Danielle Garrison, but freshman shortstop Barb Shea (Clifton Park, NY / Shenendehowa) lost the ball in the sun that allowed Ollari to come around to score the game-tying run.

In the bottom of the seventh, Le Moyne put two runners via fielding errors. Danielle VanGorder (Vestal, NY / Vestal) loaded the bases on a bunt single down the third base line. Schweikert, who drove in all three Dolphin runs, drove a 0-1 offering from Katrina Pistilli over the centerfielders head to plate the game winning run.
