#10 LOUISVILLE OPENS THREE-GAME SERIES WITH 8-1 WIN OVER BASEBALL

Louisville, Ky. - Senior catcher Jeff Arnold went 3-for-3 with three runs batted in and junior righty Thomas Royse struck out five batters over seven innings to lead 10th-ranked Louisville to an 8-1 win over the Le Moyne College baseball team on Friday afternoon at Patterson Stadium.

Arnold, a preseason All-BIG EAST team selection and a member of the Johnny Bench Award Watch List, opened the second inning with a solo homer to left field to get the Cardinals on the board. Louisville then added three runs on four hits and an error in the third inning. Drew Haynes walked and Kyle Grieshaber singled through the left side to begin the frame. After a throwing error moved each runner up a base, Adam Duvall singled to left field to knock in Haynes and Grieshaber. Following a pair of outs, Phil Wunderlich singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Arnold then doubled to left center to drive in Wunderlich.

The Dolphins got one run back on three hits in the fourth inning. Freshman second baseman Zack Wiley (Toluca Woods, Calif./Crespi) singled through the right side and senior left fielder Chris Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) was hit by a pitch to open the inning. Two batters later, sophomore shortstop Matt Marra (Brewerton, N.Y./Central Square) loaded the bases with an infield single. Following the second out of the inning, sophomore first baseman Joe Lombardi (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) singled to the shortstop to drive in Wiley. Royse got out of the bases-loaded jam by inducing a ground out.

Louisville, which won the BIG EAST regular season and tournament championships last year, added two runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings to put the game away. After a fly out to start the sixth, Arnold waked and Steward Ijames singled through the right side. Mike Morrison followed with a double to right center to plate Arnold and Ijames. In the seventh, Grieshaber was walked to open the inning and moved to third as Duvall singled and advanced to second on a throwing error. Grieshaber scored the first run of the inning on a ground out by Ryan Wright. Following a fly out, Arnold singled to right center to drive in Duvall with the final run of the game.

Royse, a second team BIG EAST selection last year and the reigning BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week, allowed just the one run on seven hits and one walk, while striking out five to improve to 3-0 on the season. Junior Jeff Tardiff (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) took the loss for the Dolphins after yielding eight runs (seven earned) on 12 hits over six and two-thirds innings of work. The righty, who struck out two batters, suffered his first loss since March 21, 2009, a span of 11 starts.

Le Moyne (4-4), which is facing its second consecutive ranked opponent, returns to action against the Cardinals on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
