EDMONDSON'S NINTH-INNING SACRIFICE FLY GIVES BASEBALL 6-5 WIN AT LOUISIANA

Lafayette, La. – Senior left fielder Chris Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) had two hits and drove in the game-winning run in the ninth inning to give the Le Moyne College baseball team a 6-5 win over Louisiana on Saturday night at "Tigue" Moore Field.

Sophomore right fielder Brett Botsford (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) opened the ninth with a single through the left side. After a single to right field by sophomore shortstop Matt Marra (Brewerton, N.Y./Central Square) that advanced Botsford to third, Edmondson lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Botsford with the game-winning run. Sophomore righty Erik Lambe (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) registered a strike out, a ground out and a fly out in the bottom of the ninth to seal the victory.

The Dolphins took an early lead with a run in the second inning and a run in the third frame. Freshman second baseman Zack Wiley (Toluca Woods, Calif./Crespi) singled with one out in the second and moved to third on a single up the middle by senior center fielder Sean Paino (Wappinger Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham). Redshirt freshman third baseman Ryan Mahoney (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) then grounded out to plate Wiley with the game's first run.

In the third, sophomore designated hitter Matthew Ciraco (White Plains, N.Y./Perkiomen School) doubled down the left field line with two outs. Marra followed with a single up the middle to knock in Ciraco.

Greg Fontenot was hit by a pitch with two outs in the bottom of the third to start a two-run rally by Louisiana. Kyle Olasin and Matt Goulas then drew walks to load the bases. Jordan Poirrier followed with a ground-rule double to left center to drive in Fontenot and Olasin.

Le Moyne regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning, but the Ragin' Cajuns evened the score in the bottom of the frame. Botsford led off by reaching on a bunt single and advancing to second on a throwing error by the third baseman. Following a sac bunt by Ciraco, Marra delivered a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Botsford.

Fontenot and Olasin opened the bottom of the inning with consecutive singles. Following a pop out on a bunt attempt by Goulas, Poirrier reached base to load the bases. Chad Keefer then flied out to center to plate Fontenot.

The Dolphins took the lead back with two runs on two hits and an error in the sixth inning. Wiley led off with a single to left field and advanced to second as Paino reached on a throwing error by the pitcher on a sacrifice attempt. Mahoney followed by registering a sac bunt to moved Paino and Wiley up a base. Two batters later, sophomore catcher Kyle Kalaka (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) singled to left field to drive in Wiley and Paino.

The Ragin' Cajuns responded by scoring once in the seventh and once in the eighth to knot the score at five apiece. Fontenot walked to open the seventh and advanced to second on a sac bunt by Olasin. After a pop out, Poirrier double to right center to score Fontenot. In the eighth, Lance Marvel singled to center with two outs and Dillon Guillory followed by drawing a walk. After a Le Moyne pitching change, Fontenot singled to plate Marvel with the game-tying run.

Lambe improved to 6-1 on the season after getting the final four outs of the contest in relief of junior righty Jeff Tardiff (Framingham, Mass./Framingham). Tardiff recorded six strikeouts, while scattering six hits over seven and two-thirds innings. Dayton Marze, the third Louisiana pitcher of the game, took the loss after allowing one run on three hits in three innings of work.

Le Moyne (22-22), which improved to 20-6 on the season when scoring at least six runs, wraps up its three-game series with the Ragin' Cajuns on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. EST.
