Le Moyne answered with three runs on three hits in its half of the frame. Freshman second baseman Zack Wiley (Toluca Woods, Calif./Crespi) drilled the first pitch he saw over the fence in left field. Two batters later, senior left fielder Chris Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) blasted an opposite-field home run to left center. Sophomore shortstop Matt Marra (Brewerton, N.Y./Central Square) followed by drawing a walk and advancing to second on a wild pitch. After a ground out, freshman designated hitter/catcher Brian Stinson (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) doubled to center field to knock in Marra.
Stony Brook took the lead for good in the second inning with six runs on five hits and an error. Tanner Nivins singled, Travis Jankowski reached on an error and Pat Cantwell was hit by a pitch to load the bases. In the fourth inning, Dyer walked to open the frame. Carmona then hit the ball over the fence in center field, but had the home run nullified after he passed Dyer rounding first base, resulting in Dyer scoring but Carmona being ruled out. Nivins led off the fifth inning with a solo homer to right center to extend Stony Brook's lead to 9-3.
Senior center fielder Sean Paino (Wappinger Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) narrowed Le Moyne's deficit to five runs with a lead-off homer in the sixth inning, but the Seawolves closed out the scoring in the game in the eighth inning on Carmona's second home run of the contest.
Michael Barbot went seven and one-third innings out of the bullpen to pick up the win for the Seawolves. Junior Jeff Tardiff (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) suffered the loss after allowing eight runs (two earned) in three and one-third innings pitched.
In the first inning of the nightcap, the Dolphins scored three runs on three hits and one Stony Brook error. Edmondson hammered a solo home run over the fence in right field with two outs to tie the program's career record and give the Dolphins the lead. Edmondson ties the record of 36 held by Chuck Kulle '93. Marra followed with his first homer of the season. After Paino reached on an error, Stinson doubled to center to drive in Paino.
The Seawolves took the lead in the fourth inning with four runs on four hits and an error. Marshall and Stephen Marino singled and Carmona walked to load the bases with one out. After a dropped foul ball, Stephan drilled a grand slam to center.
Stony Brook increased its lead to 6-3 in the fifth inning on a two-run homer to left center by Nivins that also plated Sal Intagliata, who doubled to open the frame.
The Dolphins took the lead in the bottom of the fifth with four runs on four hits. Sophomore third baseman Vincent Redmond (Ithaca, N.Y./Lansing/Garrett College) led off the inning with a solo homer to right center. After Wiley walked and Edmondson singled with one out, Marra drilled a three-run homer to center field.
The Seawolves regained the lead with two runs on two hits and two errors in the top of the seventh inning. Cantwell reached on a wild pitch after striking out with one out. After Marino singled, pinch-runner Jankowski and Marino each stole a base with Jankowski scoring on a throwing error by the catcher. Dyer singled to left and advanced to second on an error by the left fielder that allowed Marino to score.
Patrick O'Leary earned his first win of the season by tossing one and one-third scoreless innings, while Chris Maier earned the save by pitching a scoreless seventh inning. Senior southpaw Luke Nellis (Fonda, N.Y./Fonda-Fultonville) took the loss after yielding two runs (one earned) in one and two-third innings.
Le Moyne (14-14), which has dropped five of six games to the Seawolves over the last two seasons, closes out the four-game series with Stony Brook on Sunday with a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
