BASEBALL SHUTS OUT UALBANY, 7-0, ON SENIOR DAY

Syracuse, N.Y. – Sophomore shortstop Matt Marra (Brewerton, N.Y./Central Square) had three hits and scored twice to lead the Le Moyne College baseball team to a 7-0 win over UAlbany on Tuesday afternoon at Dick Rockwell Field.

The Dolphins scored the only runs they would need on three hits in the third inning. Marra singled down the left field line, freshman first baseman Brian Stinson (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) walked and senior center fielder Sean Paino (Wappinger Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) singled through the left side to load the bases. Redshirt freshman third baseman Ryan Mahoney (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) followed by lifting a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Marra and moved Stinson to third. Sophomore catcher Kyle Kalaka (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) then singled down the right field line to drive in Stinson.

The Dolphins added a pair of runs in the third inning on a home run to center field by Stinson after Marra doubled to left center with two outs.

Le Moyne extended its lead to six runs with two runs on three hits and one error in the fifth frame. Freshman second baseman Zack Wiley (Toluca Woods, Calif./Crespi) opened the inning with a single to left center and advanced to third on a single down the right field line by senior left fielder Chris Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City). Marra then singled to the shortstop to drive in Wiley and advanced to second on a throwing error by the shortstop, allowing Edmondson to move to third. Two batters later, Paino flied out to the center fielder to knock in Edmondson.

The Dolphins closed out the scoring in the game with a run on three hits in the sixth inning. Kalaka singled through the left side with one out and advanced to second on a singled to left field by sophomore right fielder Brett Botsford (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker). Wiley then singled through the left side to load the bases and force a UAlbany pitching change. Following a foul out, Kalaka scored on a wild pitch.

Junior righty Jeff Tardiff (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) earned the win by striking out four over four scoreless innings, while allowing just two hits. Terry McFadden took the loss after giving up seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits over five and one-third innings.

Le Moyne (26-25), which honored seniors Edmondson, Paino, Rich Brown (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal), Luke Nellis (Fonda, N.Y./Fonda-Fultonville), Al Ondrako (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) and Dan Tunison (Bath, N.Y./Bath-Haverling) prior to the game for their contributions to the program, returns to action on Friday, May 14 against Long Island University at MCU Park in Brooklyn, N.Y.
