Box Score Garden City, N.Y. – Guard Sade Jackson led four players in double-figures with 14 points as Adelphi used a 10-0 surge in the middle of the second half to pull away for a 73-62 win over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Center for Recreation and Sport.
Jackson tallied eight of her 14 points in the second half, while finishing the game with five rebounds and five assists in 20 minutes off the bench. Forward Jessica Kitrys registered 13 points, 10 of which came in the second half, while guard Amanda Campusano and forward Kara Tancredi scored 12 and 11 points off the bench, respectively.
Sophomore guard Maddy McKnight (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) led three Dolphins in twin figures with a career-high 13 points. Sophomore guard Raven Short (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) came off the bench to record a career-best 12 points. Senior forward Katie Hart (Constantia, N.Y./Central Square/Canisius) posted 10 points and game-highs of nine rebounds and six assists.
The teams went back-and-forth over the opening 12 minutes and 20 seconds of the game with the score being tied three times, the last of which being 18-18, and neither team leading by more than four points. Seven different players scored for the Panthers in the span, led by five points by Campusano and four points from Jackson, while McKnight led the Dolphins with five points and freshman guard Jocelyn Ford (Ithaca, N.Y./Lansing) had four points as six different Dolphins scored.
The Dolphins scored seven of the next nine points for their largest lead of the game at 25-20 with 5:02 remaining. Short nailed a three-pointer, junior forward Emily Bayly (Schenectady, N.Y./Niskayuna) followed with a lay-up and Short capped the burst with a lay-up.
The Panthers countered with eight straight points over the next 3:22 to take a 28-25 lead. Jackson started the stretch with a pair of free throws, Campusano followed with a jumper, guard Shannon Flynn nailed a three-pointer for the lead and Kitrys capped the streak with a free throw.
McKnight converted a pair of free throws with eight seconds left in the half to pull the Dolphins within a point at the intermission.
After Kitrys made a jumper to start the second half, freshman guard Alex Marple (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro) recorded a conventional three-point play to tie the game for the fourth time. The teams then played to ties at 34, 39 and 40 over the first six minutes of the second stanza.
Following back-to-back baskets by senior center Emma Cronk">Emma Cronk (Parham, Ontario/Sydenham/Binghamton) gave the Dolphins a 44-43 lead with 12:32 remaining, the Panthers scored 10 straight points in a span of 2:11 to take control of the game. Reserve guard Samantha Perez ignited the run with a three-pointer, Tancredi made a lay-up, Flynn knocked down a three-pointer and Tancredi put her team up 53-44 with two free throws with 10:21 to go.
The Dolphins hit three free throws over the next 1:50 to cut their deficit to six, but Jackson made a lay-up and Kelly Mannix nailed a three-pointer for an 11-point lead with 7:46 left.
Le Moyne posted an 11-5 run over a span of 3:45 to get within five on a Bayly three-pointer with 3:32 remaining, but could not get any closer. Ford buried a three-pointer from the left wing, Hart made a jumper and two free throws and Short converted a foul shot before Bayly's long-range basket.
The Panthers answered with six straight points to put the game away. Campusano scored the first three points, while Jackson followed with a jumper and a free throw to make the score 71-60 with 1:07 left.
Marple and Campusano each recorded two points in the final 52 seconds to deliver the game's final score.
Le Moyne (1-7, 0-7), which has dropped four of the five meetings since Adelphi joined the Northeast-10 in 2009, returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 17 for a non-conference game at St. Thomas Aquinas at 1:00 p.m.
