Syracuse, N.Y. – Jeremy Banks tripled down the right field line to drive in the game-winning run as Youngstown State registered a 6-4 win in 17 innings over the Le Moyne College baseball team on Sunday afternoon at Dick Rockwell Field. The 17 innings are the most on record played by the Dolphins.

Youngstown State got on the scoreboard first with three runs on three hits in the opening inning. Phil Lipari led off with a single to left field and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After Joe Iacobucci singled through the left side and stole second base to put runners at second and third, Banks walked to load the bases. Greg Dissinger then singled to left center to drive in Lipari and Iacobucci. Following a wild pitch to move Banks and Dissinger up a base, Dan Hurlimann grounded out to the third baseman to knock in Banks.

The Dolphin scored once on a hit in the second inning to get within 3-1. Sophomore first baseman Kody O'Connor (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) reached on a triple down the right field line with one out and came in to score on a groundout by right fielder Don Schaaf (Medford, N.Y./Longwood HS).

The Penguins extended their lead back to three with a run on two hits in the fifth inning. With two outs, Padraic Williams singled through the right side. Iacobucci then doubled down the right field line to plate Williams.

Le Moyne rallied to force extra innings in the ninth with three runs on two hits. O'Connor made the score 4-2 by blasting a one-out, 2-2 pitch over the fence in right field for his team best-tying fourth home run of the year. Following a walk by Schaaf, sophomore designated hitter Zack Wiley (Toluca Woods, Calif./Crespi) singled to center field. Williams, who took over on the mound to start the ninth, then unleashed back-to-back wild pitches, allowing Schaaf to score and Wiley to move to third. After Stinson was hit on the upper arm by a pitch, sophomore second baseman Vincent Redmond (Ithaca, N.Y./Lansing/Garrett College) then laid down a suicide-squeeze bunt down the first baseline to plate Wiley.

After seven scoreless innings, the Penguins struck for two runs on two hits and a Le Moyne error in the 17th inning. Iacobucci reached on a throwing error by the shortstop to open the inning. Banks then tripled into the right field corner on a 1-0 pitch to plate Iacobucci with the go-ahead run. Center fielder Chris Mitko, who entered the game in the ninth when Williams took over on the mound, followed with a single between the third baseman and shortstop to knock in Banks.

Junior southpaw Mike Anarumo (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) suffered the loss for the Dolphins after giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits over three innings, while striking out three batters. Junior Ed Kohout (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence/Genesee C.C.) struck out five over eight scoreless innings out of the bullpen to keep the Penguins at four runs. Bill Turosky pitched seven scoreless innings out of the bullpen for the Penguins to earn the win, while recording four strikeouts. Erik Okleson earned the save by retiring three of the four batters he faced in the 17th inning.

Le Moyne (9-19), which has dropped its last four extra-inning games, returns to action on Tuesday at Alliance Bank Stadium (home of the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs) against St. Bonaventure at 4:30 p.m.
