SECOND-HALF SURGE LIFTS STONEHILL OVER DOLPHINS, 77-56

Easton, Mass. – Asia Ewing recorded a double-double to lead Stonehill to a 77-56 victory over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Merkert Gymnasium.

Ewing registered a team-high 15 points, including 11 in the second half, and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Amy Pelletier posted 14 points, nine of which came in the first half, while Tori Faieta and Priscilla Dodoo tallied 12 points apiece. Mary Louise Dixon dished out a game-best 10 assists, while scoring nine points.

Senior forward Katie Hart (Constantia, N.Y./Central Square/Canisius) scored a career high-tying 18 points, while pulling down a team-high eight rebounds. Classmates Morgan Rowland (Latham, N.Y./Shaker/Delaware State) and Emma Cronk (Parham, Ontario/Sydenham/Binghamton) also finished in twin figures with 17 and 10 points, respectively.

After the Dolphins scored four of the game's first six points, the Skyhawks scored nine straight points and 19 of the next 22 points. Ewing bookended the run with a pair of lay-ups, while Pelletier hit a trio of three-pointers, all off passes from Dixon.

After the teams traded points, leading to a 29-14 Stonehill advantage at the 5:33 mark, the Dolphins scored 11 straight points and 15 of the next 17 points to get within two points with 1:26 left. Rowland started the streak with a three-pointer, Hart made consecutive lay-ups, Rowland turned a steal into a fast-break lay-up then hit a jumper, Hart nailed a jumper and then Rowland had another fast-break lay-up off a steal.

Dixon and Tania Williams had two points apiece around a Rowland lay-up to give the Skyhawks a 35-31 lead at halftime.

Dodoo opened the scoring in the second half with a lay-up, but Rowland countered with a conventional three-point play and a three-pointer to tie the game at 37 at the 18:29 mark.

Ewing nailed a three-pointer on Stonehill's next possession, but that was Stonehill's last basket for four minutes and 25 seconds as the Dolphins took a 42-40 lead on a lay-up from Hart and a free throw and lay-up by Cronk.

Consecutive fast-break lay-ups by Dixon and Abbey Lalime gave the lead back to the Skyhawks, but Cronk had a put-back lay-up on the other end to tie the score for the third and final time.

Stonehill scored the next nine points to take control of the game. Lalime started the run with a three-pointer, Ewing followed with a jumper, Williams made a lay-up and Pelletier capped the spurt with a lay-up.

Sophomore guard Maddy McKnight (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) ended Stonehill's run with a three-pointer from the left corner, but the Skyhawks answered with seven straight points for a double-digit lead. Dodoo hit two free throws, Dixon made a lay-up and then Pelletier hit her fourth three-pointer of the contest with 6:53 remaining.

After the teams split the game's next 16 points over the ensuing 2:36, Stonehill scored nine consecutive points to take its largest lead. Faieta had two free throws and a lay-up, Ewing drilled a three-pointer from the top of the key and Williams ended her team's scoring with a lay-up. Freshman Sadie Breen">Sadie Breen (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown) closed out the scoring in the game with a free throw with seven seconds left.

Le Moyne (3-11, 1-10 NE-10) returns to action on the road, Tuesday, at UMass Lowell at 5:30 p.m.
