Box Score Syracuse, N.Y. – Lauren Battista scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead fifth-ranked Bentley to a 78-36 win over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team on Wednesday night in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Court.
Battista, who went 6-of-6 from the field, scored nine of her points and pulled down four of her rebounds in the opening half. Shatasia Kearse, a cousin of All-Pro defensive end Jevon Kearse, came off the bench to score 11 points on five of six shooting, while Katherine Goodwin was the third Bentley player in double digits with 10 points.
After the teams split the game's first 10 points, the Falcons scored seven straight points. Christina Bakolas registered a conventional three-point play, Goodwin made a fast-break lay-up off a steal and Bakolas followed with two free throws.
The Dolphins scored six straight points to get within a point with 15:01 left, but were unable to take the lead. Senior center Emma Cronk (Parham, Ontario/Sydenham/Binghamton) started the spurt with a lay-up, senior guard Morgan Rowland (Latham, N.Y./Shaker/Delaware State) converted a lay-up and followed with a jumper, Le Moyne's last field goal of the half.
Bentley scored the game's next 12 points to take control of the contest. Battista and Kearse each had five points, while Courtney Finn had a lay-up.
After the Dolphins made five free throws in a span of two minutes to get within 25-16 with 4:24 left in the half, the Falcons closed out the stanza with the last 12 points. Finn started the run with a three-pointer, Caleigh Crowell nailed a three-pointer, Battista made two lay-ups and Crowell ended the half with a lay-up for a 37-16 Bentley lead at halftime.
The Falcons opened the second half with 12 of the first 14 points. Goodwin nailed a pair of three-pointers in the three minute and 31 second stretch, while Battista, Crowell and Bakolas each made a basket.
After freshman Jocelyn Ford (Ithaca, N.Y./Lansing) snapped Le Moyne's stretch of 18:49 without a field goal and classmate Alex Marple (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro) followed with a jumper to make the score 49-22 with 15:40 left, the Falcons rattled off 18 consecutive points. Kelsey Roberson ignited the run with a pair of three-pointers, while Kearse had six points in the stretch, Battista had four and Carlene Kluge made a jumper.
Le Moyne scored seven of the next nine points, but Bentley countered with six straight to take its largest lead of the game. Freshman Sadie Breen (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown) had the first four points for the Dolphins with Marple following with a convention three-point play, while Kluge had four points and Chelsea Lombardi made a lay-up.
The Dolphins closed out the game with seven of the final 10 points. Sophomore Raven Short (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) made a jumper, sophomore guard Ashley Prischak (Erie, Pa./Villa Marie Academy) connected on a three-pointer and freshman forward Emily Greer">Emily Greer (Corry, Pa./Corry) made a lay-up.
Le Moyne (6-12, 3-11 NE-10), which had its three-game win streak snapped, returns to the court on Saturday at Saint Michael's at 1:30 p.m.
