#23 FRANKLIN PIERCE RUNS AWAY IN SECOND HALF FOR 73-48 WIN OVER DOLPHINS

Syracuse, N.Y. – Marielle Giroud registered a double-double to lead 23rd nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce to a 73-48 win over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Court.

Giroud tallied 24 points, 12 of which came in each half, and pulled down a game-best 10 rebounds, while recording seven steals. Brittany Martelle came off the bench to score 16 points, while last year's NE-10 Player of the Year, Jewel White, posted 10 points and seven rebounds, nine points and six rebounds below her seasonal averages.

Senior forward Katie Hart (Constantia, N.Y./Central Square/Canisius) led the Dolphins offensively with 11 points, while grabbing five rebounds. Junior forward Emily Bayly (Schenectady, N.Y./Niskayuna) was the only other Dolphin in double digits with 10 points.

The opening half was back-and-forth throughout with six lead changes and five ties and neither team leading by more than five points. The Ravens took their largest lead of the half at 8-4 on a Brooke Coderre three-pointer. Le Moyne answered with five straight to take its first lead on a lay-up by freshman guard Jocelyn Ford (Ithaca, N.Y./Lansing) and a conventional three-point play by Bayly.

After Martelle regained the lead for the Ravens with a three-pointer on their next possession, the Dolphins scored five straight points and nine of the game's next 11 for their largest advantage of the game, 18-13, with 8:05 remaining. Hart had a pair of lay-ups, Bayly hit a free throw, sophomore guard Maddy McKnight (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) made a lay-up and senior center Emma Cronk (Parham, Ontario/Sydenham/Binghamton) converted two free throws.

The teams traded points over the next six minutes with Le Moyne's lead bouncing between one and three points. Following a lay-up by Hart to give the Dolphins a 27-24 advantage with 2:17 left, the Ravens got a free throw from Giroud and a three-pointer by Lekia Cowen for the lead. Bayly answered with a lay-up for the Dolphins, but Franklin Pierce took the lead at the intermission on a pair of foul shots by Giroud.

To open the second half, the teams alternated points, leading to a 34-34 tie at the 17:10 mark on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Ashley Prischak (Erie, Pa./Villa Marie Academy).

The Ravens took the lead for good with seven consecutive points in a span of 49 seconds. Coderre made a jump shot, Giroud had a conventional three-point play and White made a lay-up off a steal.

Franklin Pierce's lead fluctuated between five and nine points over the ensuing eight and one-half minutes, leading to a 52-44 edge. Six different Dolphins accounted for their 10 points, while Giroud and Tiffany Johnson each scored four points for the Ravens.

After two minutes and 16 seconds of scoreless action, Franklin Pierce rattled off 15 straight points in a span of 2:52 to blow the game open. Martelle drilled a pair of three-pointers and a lay-up, Giroud knocked down a three-pointer and two free throws and Amanda Saab had a steal and fast-break lay-up.

Following a free throw from junior guard Torie Lee (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) to end the run, the Ravens took their largest lead of the contest on consecutive lay-ups by Cowen and Jasmyra Saunders. Freshman forward Tessa Pucello">Tessa Pucello (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay) scored Le Moyne's final points with a put-back lay-up with 1:31 left to end a stretch of 11:49 by the Dolphins without a field goal, while Julia Smiley ended the game's scoring with a jumper 26 seconds later.

Le Moyne (2-10, 0-9 NE-10), which has dropped three straight games to the Ravens, returns to the hardwood on Wednesday against Merrimack at 5:30 p.m.
