Box Score Syracuse, N.Y. – The three members of the senior class each posted at least 15 points and eight rebounds to lead the Le Moyne College women's basketball team to an 81-70 win over New Haven on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Court.
Senior guard Morgan Rowland (Latham, N.Y./Shaker/Delaware State) scored a game-high 21 points (15 in the first half), grabbed a career-best eight rebounds (five offensive) and had three steals. Forward Katie Hart (Constantia, N.Y./Central Square/Canisius) tallied her second straight double-double with 15 points (11 in the second half) and a game-high 12 rebounds (nine in the second half), while center Emma Cronk (Parham, Ontario/Sydenham/Binghamton) registered her second double-double of the year with 15 points and 11 rebounds (eight offensive). Junior guard Torie Lee (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) came off the bench to score 11 points. Sophomore guard Maddy McKnight (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) dished out a career-best 10 assists, while scoring eight points and recording three steals.
Anh-Dao Tran led the Chargers with 21 points, six assists and five steals. Aquillin Hayes scored 16 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked three shots off the bench.
After the Chargers opened the game with the first seven points, the Dolphins scored 15 of the next 18 over a span of 6:05 to take the lead, which they would not relinquish. In New Haven's 7-0 start, Tran had a jumper in the paint, Audrey Cunningham made a fast-break lay-up and Nikita Reddy drilled a three-pointer. Rowland countered with a three-pointer to get the Dolphins on the scoreboard and Cronk followed with a jumper. After Reddy hit another three-pointer, Cronk and Rowland accounted for 10 straight points with four and six points, respectively.
Tran made a three-pointer and Ashley LeBlanc converted a lay-up to even the score at 15 apiece, but the Dolphins scored 12 of the next 16 points to take the lead for good. Rowland made consecutive jumpers to start the charge, McKnight followed with a three-pointer and a jumper and junior forward Emily Bayly (Schenectady, N.Y./Niskayuna) capped the run with a three-pointer at the 7:29 mark.
The teams split the final 28 points of the half as the Dolphins took a 41-33 advantage into the intermission. Lee scored six of Le Moyne's 14 points with Hart adding four, while Bria Moore had five points and Tran tallied four points for the Chargers.
After the Dolphins scored the first four points of the second half, the Chargers posted seven of the next 10 points to get their deficit back to eight, but they could not get any closer. Following a jumper by Tran to make the score 48-40, Hart made a jumper and Rowland followed with a jumper and lay-up for a 14-point lead with 13:51 remaining.
Tran made a lay-up and Cunningham drilled a three-pointer to get the Chargers within single digits, but the Dolphins responded with 15 of the next 20 points to match their largest lead of the season (69-50). Cronk scored the first four points, while Hart and freshman guard Alex Marple">Alex Marple (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro) added four points each.
McKnight put the Dolphins up 76-59 with a left-handed lay-up with 2:51 remaining before New Haven scored 11 of the final 16 points of the game. Hayes had six of the 11 points for the Chargers, while Lee had all five of Le Moyne's points.
Le Moyne (7-16, 4-15 NE-10), which beat the Chargers at home for the first time in four meetings since New Haven joined the NE-10 prior to the 2008-09 academic year, closes out the road portion of its schedule on Tuesday at Southern Connecticut State at 5:30 p.m.
