HARRISON AND BROWN LEAD SOFTBALL TO SPLIT AT USC AIKEN, 1-0, 4-5

Aiken, S.C. – Sophomore pitcher Sarah Harrison (Cobleskill, N.Y./Cobleskill-Richmondville) threw a three-hit shutout and senior right fielder Kristin Brown (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) went 2-for-2 with a run scored to lead the Le Moyne College softball team to a split of a doubleheader at USC Aiken on Wednesday afternoon at Satcher Field. The Dolphins won the opening game, 1-0, but fell in the nightcap, 5-4.

The Dolphins scored the only run they would need on two hits in the top of the third inning. Brown led off the frame with a double to left field. Senior Kelcie Cashel (Lacona, N.Y./Sandy Creek) followed with a double to center on a 1-0 pitch to drive in Brown.

Harrison earned her third victory of the season after striking out six batters in her complete-game performance. India Kornegay took the loss despite recording 12 strikeout and only allowing four hits.

In the nightcap, USC Aiken struck first with three runs on three hits in the second inning. Left fielder Brittney Williamson singled with one out and moved to second on a walk by third baseman Lindsey Jones. After a strikeout, right fielder Brandy Bossle doubled to left center to drive in Williamson and Jones. Shortstop Kaitlyn White followed with a single to left to plate Bossle from third.

The Dolphins took the lead with four runs on five hits in the fifth inning. Senior first baseman Leah Ford (Pulaski, N.Y./Pulaski) led off with a single to left field and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Junior third baseman Fran Kiernan (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) then doubled to center to knock in Ford. After Brown singled and stole second, Cashel doubled to center to plate sophomore pinch-runner Kari Smith (Franklin, Mass./Franklin). Two batters later, senior catcher Morgan Edmondson">Morgan Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) singled to center to drive in Brown and Cashel.

The Pacers answered with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the frame to regain the lead. Bossle started the rally with a single to center and moved to second on a bunt single by White. Following a sacrifice bunt and a strikeout, designated player Cortney Sadler doubled off the top of the wall in center to score Bossle and White.

Harrison suffered the loss after yielding five runs on seven hits over six innings in the circle, while striking out four. Kornegay earned the win in relief of Samantha Lemm by tossing the final two and two-thirds innings, while striking out four.

Le Moyne (3-5), which snapped a four-game losing streak with the game one victory, returns to action on Thursday at Augusta State at 1:00 p.m.
