CANNON AND MARRA LEAD #14/17 BASEBALL OVER SAINT ROSE 1-0

Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior right-hander Casey Cannon (Manasquan, N.J./Saint Rose/U. of Delaware) and senior third baseman Matt Marra (Brewerton, N.Y./Central Square) guided the #14/17-ranked Le Moyne College baseball team to a 1-0 victory over The College of Saint Rose on Thursday afternoon at Dick Rockwell Field. The Dolphins improve to 24-8-1 overall, 9-5-1 in the Northeast-10 and 4-2 in the Southwest Division, while the Golden Knights fall to 10-18 overall, 3-11 in the conference and 2-4 in the division.

Cannon improved his record to 4-0 on the season, pitching eight and one-third scoreless innings, while striking out four, scattering three hits and allowing just three base runners to reach second base on the afternoon.

Following two scoreless innings to start the game, the Dolphins plated their only run of the day courtesy of a two-out single by Marra. Junior first baseman Paul Speicher (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) led off the frame walking on four pitches and was erased on a fielder's choice by sophomore right fielder Nate Reynolds (Johnson City, N.Y./Maine-Endwell). Reynolds moved into scoring position by stealing second base. After senior center fielder Brett Botsford (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) reached on a hit by pitch and junior second baseman Vincent Redmond (Ithaca, N.Y./Lansing/Garrett College) lined out to right field, Marra delivered a single to right field to plate Reynolds from second.

Saint Rose's A.J. Capone led off the ninth with a single up the middle and was erased trying to steal second. Following a walk to Kyle Charron, junior reliever Kevin Carroll (Jamesville, N.Y./Fabius-Pompey) secured the final two outs for his fourth save of the season.

Saint Rose left-hander Justin Brooks took the loss after pitching a complete game, allowing seven hits and recording six strikeouts.

The game was part of the year-long Upstate Challenge, a head-to-head competition between the Le Moyne College and The College of Saint Rose athletic programs. The Dolphins and Golden Knights have split their two first games and will decide the series winner on Tuesday, April 17.

The Dolphins host a three-game series with New Haven this weekend, which begins with a single game on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
