SOFTBALL CLOSES OUT HOME SCHEDULE WITH SWEEP OF SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE, 7-2, 1-0

Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior catcher Morgan Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) doubled three times and drove in three runs in the opener and junior designated player Fran Kiernan (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) doubled in Edmondson in the eighth inning for the only run in game two as the Le Moyne College softball team swept a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader with Southern New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex. The Dolphins won the opening game, 7-2, and recorded a 1-0 victory in eight innings in the nightcap.

The Dolphins got on the scoreboard first in the opening game with a run on two hits. Senior third baseman Kelcie Cashel (Lacona, N.Y./Sandy Creek) led off the frame with a single down the right field line. After moving to second on a sacrifice bunt, Cashel scored on a double down the right field line by Edmondson.

Le Moyne doubled its lead in the third inning with a pair of doubles. After senior shortstop Barb Shea (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) doubled to right center, Edmondson recorded a ground-rule double to left center to plate Shea.

Pitcher Ali Maloof homered to lead off the fourth inning to cut Southern New Hampshire's deficit in half.

The Dolphins blew the game open with five runs on five hits and one SNHU error in the fifth inning. After senior first baseman Leah Ford (Pulaski, N.Y./Pulaski) started the frame with a single up the middle, Cashel blasted her team-leading fourth home run of the season over the fence in left center. Following a walk by Shea, Edmondson doubled to left center to knock in Shea, while moving to third on a throwing error by the third baseman. After a walk by Kiernan, junior right fielder Demetra Kermidas (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) reached on a bunt single over the pitcher to drive in Edmondson. Following a pair of outs, sophomore pinch-hitter Erin Batson (Poland, N.Y./Poland) singled down the left field line to score sophomore pinch-runner Hannah Gatley (New Port Richey, Fla./J.W. Mitchell).

Southern New Hampshire got its second run on a one-out home run by Tesia Stanasek in the seventh inning.

Sophomore pitcher Sarah Harrison (Cobleskill, N.Y./Cobleskill-Richmondville) struck out eight batters en route to picking up the win in the circle, while allowing just four hits in her 25th complete game of the year. Maloof took the loss after giving up seven runs on 10 hits over six innings of work.

In the nightcap, Harrison and SNHU starter Dolores Mattice were locked in a pitcher's du into the eighth inning. The Dolphins won the game with a run on two hits in the bottom of the eighth inning. After the first two batters of the frame were retired, Edmondson singled up the middle to break up Mattice's no-hitter. Kiernan then doubled into the left field corner to drive in Kiernan with the winning run.

Harrison earned her conference-best 19th win of the season after striking out five batters and scattering five hits in recording her conference-leading seventh shutout of the year. Mattice dropped to 7-7 on the season after allowing the one run on two hits, while striking out eight batters.

Le Moyne (21-23, 15-9 NE-10), which wrapped up the home portion of its schedule with a 15-3 record, returns to the diamond on Tuesday at The College of Saint Rose at 3:00 p.m.
