Manchester, N.H. – Junior attackman Tyler Prevost (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart/Onondaga C.C.) registered five points as the second-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team defeated Saint Anselm, 9-2, on Saturday afternoon at Grappone Stadium to finish Northeast-10 Conference regular-season play undefeated for the 12th time in the last 13 years. The victory marked the 200th of 15th-year head coach Dan Sheehan's career.
The Dolphins jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the opening quarter of play. Graduate student midfielder Tyler Sennett (Syracuse, N.Y./Nottingham) started the game's scoring with his 10th goal of the season at the 7:56 mark. Less than two minutes later, senior midfielder Nick Blumer (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) tallied his 12th goal of the campaign. Sophomore midfielder Andrew Chadderdon (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) completed the scoring in the quarter by finding the back of the net for the 18th time this year with 1:41 remaining.
Jake Mallinson got the Hawks on the scoreboard 3:27 into the second quarter with his 12th goal of the year in an extra-man situation off a pass from Kyle Murphy.
Prevost had a hand in the game's next two goals as the Dolphins took a 5-1 lead into the intermission. He regained the three-goal lead for the Dolphins just 36 seconds after Mallinson scored. Just 79 seconds later, he fed sophomore attackman Chris Button (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), who deposited his 22nd goal of the year into the back of the net.
Le Moyne extended its lead to 8-1 with the first three goals of the third quarter. Button gave the Dolphins a five-goal advantage 2:27 into the quarter after taking a pass from Prevost. Prevost followed 41 seconds later with his 19th goal of the year off a feed from junior attackman Nate Frechette (Manlius, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy). Chadderdon capped the spurt with an unassisted goal with 8:42 left in the stanza.
Mallinson picked up his second extra-man goal of the game with 3:12 left in the quarter off a pass from Andrew Messner.
Button completed the game's scoring by recording his team-best 24th goal of the season off a pass from Prevost with 3:42 remaining in the game.
Junior goalkeeper Jeff White (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius HS), the reigning Northeast-10 goalkeeper of the week, made 11 saves in between the pipes to earn the victory. Jonathon O'Reilly turned away five shots in the setback for the Hawks.
Le Moyne (15-0, 10-0 NE-10), which won its 55th straight Northeast-10 regular season game, will host either fourth-seeded Saint Michael's or fifth-seeded Saint Anselm on Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the Northeast-10 Conference semifinals. The Purple Knights and Hawks play on Tuesday in Colchester, Vermont.
