Easton, Mass. – Lindsay McKillop and Samantha Krantz each threw five-hit shutouts to lead Stonehill to a doubleheader sweep of the Le Moyne College softball team on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Father Gartland Field. The Skyhawks took the opener, 4-0, and registered a 1-0, eight-inning victory in the game two.
The Skyhawks scored the only runs of the opening game in the first inning. Shortstop Chelsea Stryker led off by drawing a walk and moved to third as center fielder Courtney Marchand reached on an error by the second baseman on a sacrifice bunt attempt. After Marchand stole second, First baseman Nicole Eisenmann singled through the right side to drive in Stryker and Marchand. Following a throwing error by the third baseman that allowed McKillop to reach second and Eisenmann to go to third, catcher Kelsey Wilcox lifted a sacrifice fly to center to plate Eisenmann. Third baseman Jocelynne Morrell then doubled to left field to knock in McKillop.
Sophomore pitcher Erin Batson (Poland, N.Y./Poland) took the loss after giving up four runs (one earned) on four hits over two innings of work. McKillop struck out one batter in earning her fourth win of the year.
After seven and one-half scoreless innings to start game two, Stonehill won the game with a run on three hits in the bottom of the eighth inning. Stryker reached on a bunt singled with one out. Marchand then reached on bunt single, while taking second on a throwing error by the third baseman, while allowed Stryker to advance to third. After Eisenmann flied out to right, McKillop singled to left field to drive in Stryker for the walk-off victory.
Sophomore Sarah Harrison (Cobleskill, N.Y./Cobleskill-Richmondville) suffered the loss for the Dolphins after yielding the unearned run on six hits, while striking out seven over seven and two-thirds innings pitched. Krantz registered 14 strikeouts in recording her eighth win of the season.
Le Moyne (15-23, 9-9 NE-10), which was swept for just the second time in nine NE-10 doubleheaders this year, returns to action on Wednesday against New Haven at 3:00 p.m.
