WOMEN'S BASKETBALL RECORDS 80-68 WIN OVER DAEMEN IN HOME OPENER

Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior forward Emily Greer (Corry, Pa./Corry) scored 16 points to lead the Le Moyne College women's basketball team to an 80-68 win over Daemen College on Wednesday night in non-conference action at Ted Grant Court.

Greer, who tallied 11 of her game-high point total in the second half, pulled down seven rebounds (five in the first 2:38 of the game), recorded a career-high five steals and dished out three assists. Graduate student guard Kayla Stroman (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/Niagara) scored 16 points, grabbed six rebounds, handed out five assists and posted three steals. Senior guard Maddy McKnight (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) tied her career-high for the second straight game with 13 points, while adding four rebounds and three assists. Sophomore forward Maggie Brown (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) hauled in a career-high 13 rebounds, including nine on the defensive end, and tied her career-high with three assists, while scoring nine points.

The Wildcats had five players finish in double figures scoring. Lindsay Stoddard and Raeann Stillwell each registered 16 points in the loss, while Stoddard had five rebounds and Stillwell posted five rebounds and four assists. Taylor Heinold recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Leah McDonell and Somara Colon each added 10 points.

After the teams traded points over the opening 4:28 of the game, leading to a 7-6 Daemen lead, the Dolphins scored 11 straight points over the next 2:49 to take their first double-digit lead of the contest. Five different players scored in the streak for the Dolphins, led by a three-pointer by Stroman.

The Wildcats scored eight of the next 12 points, including six by Colon, to trim their deficit to six with 9:43 remaining in the half, but Le Moyne answered with a 14-4 run to extend its lead to 16 with 3:40 to play. Stroman had the first points and McKnight had the last seven, capped by a fast-break lay-up off a rebound, while Greer made a lay-up in between.

Daemen, which won the USCAA Division I National Championship last year, tallied the last six points of the half to pull within 10 at the intermission, 35-25. Heinold and Stilwell each accounted for six of the points.

Following a three-pointer by McDonell with 17:06 left in the second half that cut Le Moyne's lead to 41-34, the Dolphins ran off 10 of the next 11 points to regain their 16-point advantage. Stroman had five of the points, while Brown made a fast-break lay-up and Greer buried a three-pointer with 14:35 to play.

After the teams split the next 10 points, the Wildcats recorded an 11-2 run to trim their deficit to seven again with 9:39 remaining. Stoddard, Stilwell and Heinold each hit three-pointers in the run, while Samantha Wozniak made a lay-up.

Le Moyne, which has scored at least 77 points in back-to-back games for the first time since January 21 and 30, 2002, answered back with a 14-4 jaunt over the next 6:12 to put the game away. Greer scored the last five points after Brown scored four points, Stroman hit two free throws, junior guard Maddie Hahesy (Erie, Pa./McDowell) had a put-back lay-up and junior guard Alex Marple (Covington, Pa./Wellsboro) converted a free throw.

After the Dolphins took their largest lead of the game (76-58) on a pair of foul shots by freshman guard Ailayia Demand">Ailayia Demand (Watervliet, N.Y./Watervliet) with 1:41 remaining, the Wildcats scored 10 of the last 14 points to deliver the final score. Stoddard and Stilwell each had five of the 10 points.

Le Moyne (2-0), which has won its first two games for the first time since the 2008-09 season, hosts Mansfield University on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
