WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COMPLETES SEASON SWEEP OF ADELPHI BY RALLYING FOR 58-55 VICTORY

Garden City, N.Y. – Senior guard Torie Lee (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) scored 18 points to lead the Le Moyne College women's basketball team to a 58-55 win over Adelphi University on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Center for Recreation and Sport.

Lee, who shot a season-best 61.5% from the field, tallied 10 of her game-high point total in the opening half. Sophomore forward Tessa Pucello (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay) registered 12 points and pulled down a career high-tying nine rebounds.

Jessica Kitrys was the only Panther to reach double figures, scoring 13 points. Sade Jackson, the national leader in assists per game at 7.6 entering the contest, was limited to just four assists (including just one over the final 33:51), while scoring eight points and pulling down a team-best six rebounds.

After Lee made a pair of lay-ups around a three-pointer by Shannon Flynn, the Panthers scored six straight points. Kitrys made a lay-up, Lauren Nuss nailed a three-pointer and then Jackson made a free throw.

The Dolphins, who swept the season series with the Panthers for the second time in four seasons, answered with 10 of the next 15 points to even the score at 14 apiece with 12:59 remaining in the half. Lee had six of the points, while junior guard Maddy McKnight (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) made a jumper and freshman forward Maggie Brown (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) made two free throws to tie the score.

Following back-and-forth play over the next 5:43, which resulted in a 22-21 Le Moyne lead, the Panthers scored 13 of the final 16 points of the half to take a 34-25 lead into the intermission. Tara Flynn started the run with a pair of three-pointers, while Kitrys had two baskets around a three-pointer by Brenna Gonsalves. McKnight buried a three-pointer with 3:48 left for Le Moyne's only points in the final 7:16.

Le Moyne opened the second half with 13 of the first 16 points to take a 38-37 lead with 16:21 to play. Sophomore guard Alex Marple (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro) started the half with a lay-up, Pucello followed with a traditional three-point play and then Lee made a lay-up and a three-pointer around a three-pointer by sophomore guard Maddie Hahesy (Erie, Pa./McDowell).

Shannon Flynn and Kitrys made consecutive lay-ups to give the lead back to the Panthers, but Lee nailed her second three-pointer of the opening 5:09 to tie the game for the fourth time.

After the teams traded baskets over the next two minutes, Pucello made a go-ahead lay-up to spark an 11-2 run over a span of six minutes and 40 seconds. Hahesy followed by making two free throws, sophomore forward Emily Greer">Emily Greer (Corry, Pa./Corry) answered a Jackson jumper with a jumper of her own, Brown then knocked down a jump shot, Pucello hit a free throw and then Marple capped the streak with a lay-up.

The Panthers countered with seven straight points to pull within one point with 33 seconds left. Kitrys started the rally with a lay-up and then made a free throw 39 seconds later. Ifeanyi Ofili made two free throws with 3:16 left to get Adelphi within 56-53. After 2:43 of scoreless action, Jackson converted a lay-up to make it a one point game.

After two Adelphi fouls around a missed Le Moyne free throw, Pucello finished off the game's scoring by making two free throws with 14 seconds left. Nuss had a three-point attempt from the left wing as time expired, but the shot fell short.

Le Moyne (6-19, 4-17 NE-10), which snapped a seven-game losing streak, closes out the season on Tuesday against Pace University at 5:30 p.m. Prior to tip-off, Lee will be honored by the Dolphin Athletic Association for her contributions to the program.
