SOFTBALL FALLS TO CATAWBA AND #4 NORTH GEORGIA AT CATAWBA INVITATIONAL

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Salisbury, N.C. – Gina Gerone drove in the game's only run as Catawba topped the Le Moyne College softball team, 1-0, in nine innings on Sunday afternoon at Whitley Field. In their second game of the day, the Dolphins were defeated by fourth-ranked North Georgia, 11-1.

After both teams failed to get a hit after the second inning and each team only advanced one base-runner to third base, the Indians took advantage of the international tie-breaker in the bottom of the ninth inning to score the game's only run. Shortstop Mollie Kovalcin was placed on second to begin the inning and moved to third as pinch-hitter Michaela Boyd reached on a bunt single. Gerone then lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to drive in Kovalcin.

Junior southpaw Sarah Harrison">Sarah Harrison (Canandaigua, N.Y./Cobleskill-Richmondville) took the loss despite allowing just three hits and the unearned run over eight and one-third innings, while striking out 11 batters. Carley Tysinger improved to 7-0 for the Indians after allowing just two hits in nine innings of work, while striking out 12 batters.

Due to the North Georgia game being played at a neutral site, statistics are not available at this time. This post will be updated with full details once the team returns from North Carolina.

Le Moyne (1-2) returns to action on Friday, March 15 at Georgian Court University at 2:30 p.m.
