WOMEN’S BASKETBALL USES SECOND-HALF SURGE FOR 75-61 WIN OVER MOLLOY

Bridgeport, Conn. – Senior guard Alex Marple (Covington, Pa./Wellsboro) scored in double figures in each half to lead the Le Moyne College women's basketball team to a 75-61 victory over Molloy College on Sunday afternoon on the second day of the University of Bridgeport Women's Basketball Classic at Hubbell Gym.

Marple finished the contest with a game-high 22 points, 12 of which she scored in the second half on 6-of-7 shooting from the field. Senior forward Emily Greer (Corry, Pa./Corry) registered 14 points and eight rebounds in the second half as part of 19-point, 12-rebound performance. Senior guard Maddie Hahesy (Erie, Pa./McDowell) registered eight points, a career high-tying seven rebounds and a career-best five assists over a career-high 40 minutes.

Kimani Jackson came off the bench to lead the Lions in scoring with 18 points, including 12 in the first half, while adding a team-best five rebounds. Ally Leftridge tallied 16 points, 13 of which came in the first half, grabbed three rebounds and dished out a pair of assists.

After Molloy jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the opening three minutes, the Dolphins answered with a 14-4 run to take a six-point advantage with 12:21 left in the half. Marple buried a pair of three-pointers in the streak, while Hahesy, Greer, junior forward Maggie Brown (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) and senior forward Tessa Pucello (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay) each scored two points.

The Lions countered with a 14-7 push to regain the lead with 8:20 remaining. Alexia O'Connor started the run with a three-pointer, while Leftridge capped it with a three-pointer of her own.

The teams then traded the lead five times over the next two and one-half minutes before the Dolphins got back-to-back three-pointers from Greer and freshman guard Austin Stevens (Adams Center, N.Y./South Jefferson) to retake a five-point edge.

Molloy answered back with 13 of the half's last 18 points to take a 39-36 lead into the intermission. Jackson had six of the points, Leftridge scored four and Maggie Salomone knocked down a three-pointer.

The Dolphins, who improve to 3-1 in four all-time meetings with the Lions, charged out of halftime with an 18-7 run to take the lead for good. Marple led the streak with eight points, Greer drained two three-pointers, senior forward Bath-Sheba McMahon (Queens, N.Y./Grambling Laboratory (La.)/Weatherford College) converted a lay-up off a feed from Marple and junior forward Vandell Andrade (Cranston, R.I./St. Mary's-Bay View/Rhode Island College) capped the run with a coast-to-coast fast-break lay-up with 12:53 remaining after pulling down a rebound.

Molloy recorded a 7-2 spurt to trim its deficit to three, but the Dolphins responded with 11 straight points over a span of 2:14 to take control of the game. Salomone tallied five of Molloy's seven points with a three-pointer and a lay-up. Greer started Le Moyne's run with a pair of baskets, Andrade followed with a fast-break lay-up, Hahesy drained a three-pointer and then Marple made a lay-up for a 67-53 lead with 8:57 to play.

The teams split the game's last 16 points to deliver the final score. Four players combined to score Le Moyne's eight points in the span, while Jackson led three Lions to their eight points.

Le Moyne (2-0), which has won its first two games in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the 2007-08 and 2008-09 squads did it, opens its home schedule and Northeast-10 Conference slate on Wednesday against the University of New Haven at 5:00 p.m.
