BEHIND PUCELLO'S 23 POINTS, WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CRUISES TO 82-58 WIN AT MANSFIELD

Mansfield, Pa. - Senior forward Tessa Pucello (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay) scored a career-high 23 points to lead the Le Moyne College women's basketball team to an 82-58 win over Mansfield University on Tuesday evening in non-conference action at Decker Gymnasium.

In just 23 minutes off the bench, Pucello hit 4-of-5 three-point attempts en route to her career-high point total. Pucello, whose previous career-high of 19 came against Stonehill College on January 19, 2013, tallied 15 of her points in the opening half. Senior guard Alex Marple (Covington, Pa./Wellsboro) registered 16 points, including 11 over the opening 11:17, to become the 21st player in the program's history to tally 800 career points. Additionally, Marple posted a career-high four steals, two assists and one block. Junior guard Vandell Andrade (Cranston, R.I./St. Mary's-Bay View/Rhode Island College) recorded her first double-double as a Dolphin with 11 rebounds and 10 points, while adding four assists, two blocks and two steals. Senior guard Maddie Hahesy (Erie, Pa./McDowell) filled the stat sheet with seven points, seven assists and six rebounds, four of which were on the offensive end.

Maria Kelleher led the Mountaineers with 11 points in 16 minutes off the bench. Becky Evans and Tianna Jackson each posted nine points in starting roles.

The Dolphins opened the game with the first four points and eight of the first 10 over the opening 4:35. Marple had four of the points, while Andrade started the scoring with a lay-up and senior forward Bath-Sheba McMahon (Queens, N.Y./Grambling Laboratory (La.)/Weatherford College) capped the spurt with a lay-up.

After Mansfield pulled within one for the third time with 10:58 remaining in the first half, the Dolphins took their first double-digit lead of the game with an 18-9 run over the next 5:07. Pucello had eight of the points, while Marple had five, Hahesy nailed a three-pointer and McMahon made a lay-up.

Katie Fitzpatrick made a lay-up for Mansfield with 5:26 remaining to get the Mountaineers within single-digits (31-23), but the Dolphins closed out the half with the final 13 points over the last 3:34. Andrade started the push with a put-back lay-up, Pucello followed with seven straight points, Marple made a fast-break lay-up and then Andrade ended the half's scoring with a coast-to-coast lay-up in the final seconds to give the Dolphins a 44-23 lead at the intermission.

Mansfield scored six of the first eight points of the second half to get within 46-29, but Le Moyne countered with a 14-2 streak to take its first 29-point lead. Senior forward Emily Greer (Corry, Pa./Corry) led the charge with seven of the points, while Pucello capped it with a three-pointer with 13:09 to go.

After the teams traded points over the next seven and one-half minutes, resulting in a 73-45 Le Moyne lead with 5:35 to go, the Mountaineers scored 11 straight points over the next 2:28 to get within 17. Kelleher, Evans and Stephanie Davis hit three-pointers before Evans had a put-back lay-up.

The Dolphins countered with nine consecutive points to put the game away. Marple started the final run with a three-pointer from the right corner to push her over the 800-point plateau.

Le Moyne (4-1), which has won 23 of the 24 all-time meetings with the Mountaineers, continues non-conference play on Saturday with a home game against Roberts Wesleyan College at 12:00 p.m.
