Melbourne, Fla. – Jasmire Brown and Tiesha Flagler combined for 45 points to lead Florida Institute of Technology to a 95-87 win over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team on Friday afternoon in the first game of the CarMax Holiday Tournament at the Clemente Center.
The Dolphins had five players score in double digits in the setback. Senior forward
Emily Greer (Corry, Pa./Corry) led the Dolphins with 20 points, 14 of which she scored in the second half, while adding seven rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals. Senior guard
Alex Marple (Covington, Pa./Wellsboro) tallied 18 points, including 12 in the first half, three assists and three rebounds. With her last basket of the game, Marple moved into 15th place on the program's all-time scoring chart with 901 points. Junior guard
Vandell Andrade (Cranston, R.I./St. Mary's-Bay View/Rhode Island College) registered 18 points, her most as a Dolphin, pulled down 13 rebounds, including 11 in the first half and dished out a season-best six assists. Senior forward
Bath-Sheba McMahon (Queens, N.Y./Grambling Laboratory (La.)/Weatherford College) posted her first double-double as a Dolphin with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while sophomore guard
Ailayia Demand (Watervliet, N.Y./Watervliet) came off the bench in the second half to record a career-high 10 points.
Brown led all scorers in the game with 23 points, 17 of which she scored in the second half, while adding four steals and three rebounds. Flagler registered 22 points, including 12 in the first half, while grabbing eight offensive rebounds and posting three steals. Kayk Wilson, who entered the game averaging 21.4 points per game, recorded 19 points, including 11 after halftime, and seven steals. Shequana Harris was the fourth Panther in double figures with 18 points, while adding seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks.
The Dolphins opened the game with seven of the first nine points over the opening 2:21. Marple started the scoring with a lay-up, McMahon followed with a jumper and then Marple nailed a three-pointer after two Flagler free throws.
Florida Tech, which received 20 points in the latest
USA Today Division II Coaches Poll, responded with a 13-2 run to take its largest lead of the first half with 12:55 left. Brown tallied the last five points of the streak, including a fast-break three-pointer, while Flagler had four points and Wilson and Harris each made a basket.
Le Moyne countered with a 17-7 run to regain the lead with 7:26 remaining. Greer and McMahon each had four points in the stretch, while Andrade and junior guard
Lauren Salzbrenner (Sheboygan, Wisc./Sheboygan North) each recorded three points.
The back-and-forth action continued as the Panthers rattled off eight straight points to reverse the four-point margin. Wilson nailed back-to-back three-pointers in 23 seconds to force a Le Moyne timeout and then Flagler followed with a jumper.
After each team scored two points, the Dolphins tallied nine of the next 11 points to take a 37-34 lead with 57 seconds left in the stanza. Marple bookended the stretch with a lay-up and a three-pointer, while Andrade and Greer each added two points.
Flagler made a jumper and Harris hit a runner at the buzzer to give Florida Tech a 38-37 lead at the intermission.
The Panthers (9-0), who won their first eight games of the season by 23.25 points per game and all by at least 12 points, opened the second half with nine of the first 11 points to extend their lead to 47-39 with 17:46 remaining. Wilson had five of the points, while Brown and Flagler each had two points.
After a 6-2 run by the Dolphins to cut their deficit in half, Florida Tech registered a 14-6 streak to take a 63-51 advantage with 12:17 to play. Wilson and Brown each had four of the first eight points of the run, while BreAnn Davis had a conventional three-point play before Harris nailed a three-pointer.
The Dolphins answered with five straight points and 13 of the next 15 points to get within one point with 8:46 left. Greer had four of the points, Andrade scored three and Marple, junior forward

Austin Stevens (Adams Center, N.Y./South Jefferson) each scored two points in the run, which was capped by a Stevens lay-up.
Florida Tech countered with eight consecutive points to kickstart a 16-4 run, which resulted in the largest lead of the game for the Panthers, 81-68, with 4:04 left. Jasmire Brown led the charge with seven points, Julie McCarthy had four, Harris nailed a three-pointer and Flagler ignited the run with a lay-up.
Following four points from each team, the Dolphins tallied 11 of the next 13 points to get pull within four, 87-83, with 39 seconds left. After Marple made a lay-up to put her over 900 career points, Greer hit back-to-back three-pointers, Demand made a free throw and then Brown converted a jumper in the paint.
The Panthers hit eight straight free throws in the final 38 seconds to put the game away.
Le Moyne (7-4), which lost a game in regulation when scoring at least 80 points for the first time since the 1995-96 season against the University at Albany (90-80), a span of 22 games, is back in action at the CarMax Holiday Tournament on Saturday against Palm Beach Atlantic University at 12:00 p.m.
