Alex Marple (Covington, Pa./Wellsboro) scored a career-high 26 points as the Le Moyne College women's basketball team rallied from a double-digit halftime deficit for a 72-62 win over Palm Beach Atlantic University on Saturday afternoon on the second day of the CarMax Holiday Tournament at Florida Tech's Clemente Center.
Marple, who was selected to the all-tournament team after registering a team-best 44 points over the two days, went 8-for-13 from the field and made nine of her 11 free throw attempts. She tallied 17 of her game-high point total in the second half, while finishing the game with four rebounds and three assists. Her previous career-high of 25 came earlier this season in games against Saint Rose (11/22) and Southern Connecticut State (12/13). Senior forward

Ellie Leszyk (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) stabilized the Le Moyne offense, while playing all 20 minutes (27 minutes played over first 11 games) and dishing out two assists without committing a turnover.
Four players scored in double figures in the setback for the Sailfish, who lost both games of the tournament despite holding a halftime lead in each game. Ayanna Holmes, who was selected to the all-tournament team, and Kimmi McIntosh each posted 13 points, while Holmes added a team-best seven rebounds. Nina Krstic came off the bench to score 12 points and dish out four assists, while Natalie Wood had 10 points in a reserve role.
After three points by each team over the first 2:08 of the second half, the Dolphins rattled off eight straight points and 11 of the next 12 points to get within 41-39 of the Sailfish with 14:19 to play. Four different Dolphins scored two points in the 8-0 streak, while Marple had a team-best four points in the 11-1 jaunt.
Following a 4-2 spurt by Palm Beach Atlantic over the next four and one-half minutes, the Dolphins scored five of the next six points to tie the game (46-46) for the first time since 2-2 and eight of the next 11 points for their first lead in 24:45. Greer had a three-pointer and two free throws in the 5-1 run to tie the game and then followed a Nikkira Brown lay-up with another three-pointer for the lead.
After ties at 49 and 52, which came with 7:09 remaining, Le Moyne ran off 11 of the next 13 points to take control of the game. Andrade started the run with a jumper, Marple followed with two free throws, a jumper and two more free throws for a 60-54 advantage with 4:35 remaining. After McMahon made a free throw, Marple knocked down another jump shot to put the Dolphins up nine with 3:19 to go.
The Sailfish scored six of the next eight points to get within five with 1:21 remaining, but the Dolphins hit five free throws and got a lay-up from Greer in the last 1:09 to put the game away.
Palm Beach Atlantic scored two of the first four points of the game before the Dolphins tallied seven straight to take a 9-4 lead with 16:15 left. Andrade hit a three-pointer, while Marple and McMahon each had two points.
The Sailfish answered back nine straight points and 21 of the next 27 to open up their first double-digit lead of the contest. Wood had five of the points in the 9-0 streak, while McIntosh had six points and Krstic added five points in the 21-6 run.
Following baskets by Marple and Andrade around a McIntosh lay-up, the Sailfish scored seven straight points for their largest lead of the contest. Nikkira Brown recorded a conventional three-point play in between two points each from Holmes and Krstic.
Andrade and Marple each registered conventional three-point plays in the final 2:39 around a Nikkira Brown three-pointer to get the Dolphins within 37-25 at halftime.
Le Moyne (8-4), which improved to 6-1 in non-conference play this season, returns to Northeast-10 Conference action after the holidays with a Southwest Division match-up against sixth-ranked Adelphi University on Saturday, January 3 at 12:00 p.m.
