Box Score

Syracuse, N.Y. – Jamie Hutcheson registered a double-double to lead The College of Saint Rose to a 71-53 upset of the Le Moyne College women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference play at Ted Grant Court.

With the victory, the Golden Knights claim one-half point in the year-long "Upstate Challenge" between the two institutions. Through 12 contests, the Golden Knights lead six to four.

Junior forward Emily Greer (Corry, Pa./Corry) and sophomore forward Maggie Brown (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) each scored 16 points in the loss for the Dolphins. Brown, who scored all 16 of her points in the second half, added a team-best nine rebounds, while Greer scored 11 of her points in the first half and pulled down four rebounds in the contest.

Hutcheson, who didn't play in Le Moyne's 83-71 win at Saint Rose in November, registered 19 points (12 in the first half) and a game-best 14 rebounds (10 in the first half). Desiree Simmons, who scored 26 points in November's meeting, posted 14 points, while Jess DeNicola, who didn't score in three minutes of action in November, had 13 points (nine in the second half) and grabbed eight rebounds (seven in the second half). Nicole Bini came off the bench to post 10 points, while Kelsey Glanzman had 10 rebounds (seven in the second half) in a reserve role.

The Dolphins opened the game with 10 of the first 12 points over the opening 3:23. Senior guard Ashley Prischak (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy), who made her first start of the season and the third of her career, started the scoring by draining a three-pointer from the right wing 18 seconds into the game. Greer followed with a three-pointer from the right side and then graduate student guard Kayla Stroman (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/Niagara) made a free throw. Prischak capped the spurt with another three-pointer from the right wing to force a Saint Rose timeout.

Following the timeout, the Golden Knights scored 17 straight points over a span of 7:04 to take control of the game. Hutcheson recorded eight of the points, including a three-pointer with 9:18 left to force Le Moyne's second 30-second timeout of the run. DeNicola made a pair of lay-ups, Tyler Hansen drained a three-pointer from the right corner and Glanzman converted a fast-break jumper from the right baseline.

The Dolphins, who honored the senior class of Prischak, Stroman and guards Maddy McKnight (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and Raven Short (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) prior to the game for their contributions to the program, countered with a 10-4 run to get back within three points with 5:25 left in the half. Greer started the streak with a three-pointer, junior forward Tessa Pucello (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay) followed with a jumper, Greer then registered a conventional three-point play and a lay-up after stealing the ball.

The Golden Knights scored six of the last eight points of the half to take a 32-24 lead into halftime. Bini, Hutcheson and Simmons each made lay-ups to account for the six points, while junior forward Bath-Sheba McMahon (Queens, N.Y./Grambling Laboratory (La.)/Weatherford College) made a lay-up for the Dolphins.

After the Dolphins closed to within six on three occasions over the opening two minutes of the second half, the Golden Knights rattled off eight straight points to put the game out of reach. Gabie Polce started the push with a fast-break lay-up and then DeNicola made a pair of lay-ups around a fast-break jumper by Simmons.

Greer and Brown answered with baskets 25 seconds apart, but Hutcheson nailed a three-pointer, Simmons made a free throw and Bini hit a jump shot to give Saint Rose its first 16-point lead with 10:59 left.

The Dolphins posted a 10-5 run to cut their deficit to 11 (55-44) with 6:56 left, but could not get any closer. Brown had eight of the points, while junior guard Alex Marple">Alex Marple (Covington, Pa./Wellsboro), who came off the bench for the first time this season, added a lay-up.

The teams traded points over the next five and one-half minutes as Saint Rose's lead bounced between 12 and 15 points. After Stroman made two free throws with 1:22 remaining to pull the Dolphins within 65-53, the Golden Knights scored the last six points of the game. Hutcheson made a free throw and a three-pointer around two free throws by Polce.

Le Moyne (13-11, 9-9 NE-10), which finished the regular season with eight home wins for the first time since the 2005-06 season, is off until next Saturday, when the Dolphins visit American International College for a 1:30 p.m. opening tip-off.
