Syracuse, N.Y. - Sophomore attacker Maggie Monnat (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) tallied seven points to lead the fourth-ranked Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team to a season-opening 15-6 win over Bentley University on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.

The teams opened the game by trading goals over the first 19 minutes of the contest. The Dolphins got on the scoreboard first just over one minute into the contest as junior attacker Julia Suriani (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca East) finished off a feed from classmate Laura Hoffman (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua). Carolyn Kynoch tallied Bentley's first goal with 22:18 remaining in the half. Le Moyne regained the lead at the 14:45 mark as sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Armstrong (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) registered an unassisted goal. The Falcons tied the score for the second time with 11:05 remaining as Erin O'Connor scored off a pass from Tori Cerny.

The Monnat sisters each converted free-position goals three minutes apart to give the Dolphins the lead for good. In an extra-man advantage, Claire Monnat (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) found the back of the net with 8:26 left, while Maggie posted her first goal of the season with 5:37 to play.

Kynoch scored off a free-position shot of her own with 2:48 remaining, but freshman midfielder Amari Pollard (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) capped the scoring in the half with an unassisted goal with 26 seconds left to give Le Moyne a 5-3 advantage at the intermission.

After Jackie Brown scored off a pass from Taylor Bastien at the 26:44 mark of the second half to pull the Falcons within 5-4, the Dolphins rattled off nine straight goals over the next 23 minutes. Armstrong ignited the run by finishing off a feed from Maggie Monnat with just over 26 minutes to go. Just under five minutes later, senior midfielder Victoria Nies (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) tallied her first goal after receiving a pass from graduate student attacker Marley Ciferri (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca/Syracuse). The Monnats connected for the first time with 19:47 remaining as Claire finished off a pass from Maggie, who then scored after taking a pass from junior Sam Yaro (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) 66 seconds later.

The Dolphins took a 10-4 lead with 17:50 remaining as Nies found the back of the net off another pass from Ciferri. After Maggie Monnat netted an unassisted goal with 12:25 left, she fed Claire again with 8:53 to play for a 12-4 advantage. Ciferri registered her first goal as a Dolphin with 4:52 remaining, while reigning Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year Kathleen Conese (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) gave the Dolphins a 10-goal lead with 3:13 left after taking a pass from Suriani.

Bastien ended Bentley's 25 and one-half minute scoreless streak by finishing off a feed from Kelsey Howard with 1:12 left. After the Monnats connected for the third time with 29 seconds left, Kynoch ended the game's scoring with five seconds remaining off a pass from Bastien.

Freshman goalkeeper Christina Humbert (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) registered four saves in her collegiate debut to earn the victory between the pipes. Ally Dorman, last year's Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Year, tallied 14 saves, including eight in the second half, in the loss.

Le Moyne (1-0, 1-0 NE-10), which dropped the regular season meeting to the Falcons last year, 10-9 in overtime, returns to action on Wednesday at top-ranked LIU Post at 3:00 p.m.
