Box Score Syracuse, N.Y. - Junior midfielder Laura Hoffman (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) and sophomore attacker Claire Monnat (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) each scored three goals to lead the fifth-ranked Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team to a 19-4 win over Lake Erie College in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.
The Dolphins opened the game with three goals over the first 5:05. Junior attacker Julia Suriani (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca East) got the Dolphins on the scoreboard just 36 seconds into the game. Hoffman followed with a free-position goal with 27:44 left, while senior all-American Kathleen Conese (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) found the back of the net with 24:55 remaining in the half.
After Hana Abu-Kwiek got the Storm in the scoring column with 20:08 remaining, graduate student attacker Marley Ciferri (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca/Syracuse) fed senior midfielder Victoria Nies (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesvile-DeWitt) and junior attacker Catie McKay (Penfield, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) for goals in a span of 1:23.
Abu-Kwiek answered with a pair of goals in a stretch of 4:24 to get the Storm within 5-3 with 9:04 left. Ashriel West picked up the assist on the first goal.
Le Moyne scored six times over a stretch of 3:15 to take an 11-3 lead into the intermission. Freshman midfielder Amari Pollard (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) started the run with a free-position goal with 6:03 left and then fed Hoffman for a goal 66 seconds later. Suriani followed with her second goal of the game at the 4:18 mark. Conese then found Ciferri and Hoffman for goals with 3:50 and 3:09 remaining, respectively. Pollard capped the spurt with another free-position goal with 2:48 left.
Lake Erie opened the scoring in the second half on an unassisted goal by Samantha Gryba, but that would be the Storm's final goal of the game.
Monnat tallied her first goal of the day with 25:35 left off a pass from junior attacker Sam Yaro (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker). Conese gave the Dolphins a 13-4 lead with 17:14 remaining, while Monnat scored found the back of the net 11 seconds later off a pass from Yaro. Freshman midfielder Molly McGuane (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) picked up her first career goal with 15:06 left after receiving a pass from sophomore attacker Maggie Monnat (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker). Sophomore attacker Mary Fadden (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) tallied Le Moyne's 16th goal, while Claire and Maggie connected for a goal with 11:42 to play. Sophomores Danielle Kealy (Lorraine, N.Y./South Jefferson) and Morgan Kline (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) scored off free-position shots with 8:22 and 2:51 left to close out the game's scoring.
Freshman goalkeeper Christina Humbert">Christina Humbert (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) earned the win between the pipes for the Dolphins with two saves in the first half. Katie Holden made 15 saves in the loss for the Storm.
Le Moyne (3-1) wraps up its non-conference schedule on Monday at Roberts Wesleyan College at 4:00 p.m.
