Box Score Waltham, Mass. - Senior all-conference forwards Lauren Batista and Jacqui Brugliera combined for 25 points and 18 rebounds to lead top-ranked Bentley University to a 77-51 win over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships quarterfinals at the Dana Center.
The Dolphins finish the season with a record of 15-13. The 15 wins are the most since the 2008-09 team also went 15-13.
Junior forward Emily Greer (Corry, Pa./Corry) led the Dolphins offensively with 14 points, including 10 in the second half. Senior guard Maddy McKnight (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) closed out her 106-game career with 12 points, 10 of which she scored after halftime. Graduate student guard Kayla Stroman (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/Niagara) posted 10 points, including eight in the first half, and seven rebounds. Junior guard Alex Marple (Covington, Pa./Wellsboro) scored nine points to finish the season with 408, which is tied for the 10th most in the program's history and is the most since the 2005-06.
Batista, the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year twice in the last three years, led the Falcons with 13 points, including nine in the first half, nine rebounds and seven assists. Brugliera, a member of the NE-10 Second Team, registered 12 points and nine rebounds. Jen Gemma came off the bench to score 11 points.
The Falcons opened the game with the first 10 points over the opening 4:12. Five players scored in the span, led by a three-pointer by Batista.
After Marple and Stroman scored for the Dolphins, Bentley scored eight straight points and 17 of the next 23 points to open its largest lead of the half. Batista tallied six of the points, Courtney Finn had four, Kelsey Mattice made a three-pointer and Brugliera and Gemma each had two points, while Greer had four of Le Moyne's six points.
The Dolphins responded with eight consecutive points and 11 of the next 13 points to trim their deficit to 29-21 with 1:28 remaining in the half. Stroman started the run with a free throw, a lay-up and three-pointer, McKnight made a lay-up, freshman guard Ailayia Demand (Watervliet, N.Y./Watervliet) made a free throw and then Marple knocked down a jump shot.
Gemma buried a three-pointer from the top of the arc to complete the scoring in the half and give Bentley a 32-21 lead at halftime.
The Falcons put the game away by scoring the first 27 points of the second half over a stretch of 9:30. Six different players scored in the span, led by eight points by Brugliera and six points by Caleigh Crowell.
Le Moyne ended its scoring drought of 9:49 with seven straight points. Greer hit a three-pointer and then McKnight made a pair of lay-ups.
After the teams traded baskets over the next 5:18, resulting in a 74-41 Bentley lead, the Dolphins scored 10 of the last 13 points over the final 2:54. McKnight made a lay-up, Greer and senior guard Ashley Prischak (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) nailed three-pointers and sophomore guard Lauren Price">Lauren Price (Humble, Texas/Atascocita) ended the game's scoring with a lay-up.
