Waltham, Mass. – Senior midfielder Kam Bumpus (Marshfield, Mass./Needham/Bridgton Academy) scored three goals to lead the top-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team to a 10-6 victory over Bentley University on Friday evening in Northeast-10 Conference action.
Bumpus opened the game's scoring just 1:35 into the contest by finishing off a feed from junior attackman Kevin Kelly (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge).
Following 17 minutes of scoreless action, the teams combined for four goals in a span of 4:49. Kelly gave the Dolphins a 2-0 lead with an unassisted goal with 11:19 remaining in the second quarter after picking up a loose ball four seconds earlier. Sophomore attackman Mike Jenkins (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) pushed the lead to three goals by finding the back of the net with 9:01 left.
Steve Caditz got the Falcons on the scoreboard 48 seconds later with an unassisted marker.
Senior attackman Chris Button (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) ended the scoring in the half with 7:30 left after taking a pass from junior midfielder Chris Breiner (Troy, N.Y./Trinity-Pawling) off a restart.
Bentley tallied three straight goals in a span of 1:04 over the opening 2:31 of the second half to knot the score at four apiece. Caditz started the streak with an unassisted goal 1:27 into the third quarter. Just 29 seconds later, Cutler Dimond pulled the Falcons within one after taking a feed from John Wheeler. Mike Carter followed 35 seconds later with his first of two goals in the game off a pass from Wheeler.
After winning the ensuing faceoff, Bumpus gave the lead back to the Dolphins by finishing off a feed from junior midfielder Joe Corapi (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) with 12:04 left. Corapi extended the lead to 6-4 with an unassisted tally with 9:58 remaining.
Following nine scoreless minutes, Matt Brigham recorded an unassisted goal in an extra-man opportunity to pull the Falcons within one.
Le Moyne pushed its lead back to two just 35 seconds into the fourth quarter as Bumpus won the initial faceoff of the quarter and then found the back of the net after receiving another pass from Corapi.
Carter answered back 100 seconds later off a feed from Bobby Hinds to get the Falcons within 7-6, but that would be Bentley's final score of the game.
The Dolphins scored three times in a span of 3:29 to put the game away. Off a restart of a shot saved out-of-bounds, Button tallied his 15th goal of the season off a pass from Kelly with 8:41 remaining. Jenkins gave Le Moyne a 9-6 lead with an unassisted goal with 6:58 to go. Kelly closed out the game's scoring with his 15th goal with 5:12 left after taking a feed from Jenkins off a restart.
Junior goalkeeper Pat Brothers (Burlington, Mass./Malden Catholic), who made his first career start, picked up his second straight victory between the pipes with nine saves. Josh Baker registered 12 saves in the loss for the Falcons.
Le Moyne (7-0, 4-0 NE-10), which has won a nation-best 17 straight games, returns to action on Tuesday against eighth-ranked Merrimack College at 4:00 p.m.
