BASEBALL WALKS OFF PACE, 4-3, ON REYNOLDS BLAST

Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior left fielder Nate Reynolds (Johnson City, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) blasted a walk-off solo home run over the fence in center field to give the Le Moyne College baseball team a 4-3 win over Pace University on Sunday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference contest at Dick Rockwell Field.

The Dolphins struck first with two runs on two hits in the second inning. Reynolds led off the frame by drawing a walk and then took second on a sacrifice bunt. Following a single up the middle by freshman designated hitter Tyler Piasecki (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville South), Reynolds raced home on a wild pitch. After a single to center by junior third baseman Max Nagelsmith (Duanesburg, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy-Albany) and a walk by junior right fielder Jeremy Mathers (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger/Onondaga C.C.) to load the bases and force a Pace pitching change, sophomore second baseman Brett Charbonneau (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) drove in Piasecki by reaching on a fielder's choice.

Pace tied the score at two apiece with a pair of runs on two hits in the sixth inning. Following a single to left field by left fielder David Pepe, right fielder James Pjura launched a home run over the wall in right center.

The Setters took the lead in the top of the seventh on a lead-off home run to left center by catcher Alexander Rough.

Le Moyne pulled even with the Setters in the bottom of the frame with a run on two hits. Mathers singled to center to open the inning and then stole second with one out. Following a single to left center by sophomore shortstop Dylan Swetman (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) and a Pace pitching change, sophomore first baseman Pat Wright (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Mathers.

After sophomore catcher Trey West (Fairport, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) narrowly missed ending the game with a fly ball to center, Reynolds connected on an 0-2 pitch for his team high-tying third home run of the season and his second career walk-off homer.

Junior righty Conor Nolan (Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran) earned the win out of the bullpen, his second of the year, after retiring four of the five batters he faced, which included inducing a double play by the first batter he faced with the go-ahead run on second base. Tim Deegan, Pace's fourth pitcher of the afternoon, took the loss after giving up one run on two hits over three and one-third innings pitched.

Le Moyne (11-16, 5-3, 2-2 NE-10), which captured the season series with the Setters for the first time in three years as a member of the NE-10, is back in action at Dick Rockwell Field on Tuesday against The College of Saint Rose at 3:00 p.m. The game is the 19th in the year-long "Upstate Challenge" between the two institutions. The "Upstate Challenge" is currently tied at six points apiece, with the baseball and men's lacrosse (Wednesday) points still to be decided. The Golden Knights won the first baseball match-up on April 3, so a Saint Rose win on Tuesday captures the point, while a Le Moyne victory sets up a winner-take-all game on April 29 in Syracuse.
