Lakewood, N.J. – Senior pitcher Sarah Harrison (Canandaigua, N.Y./Cobleskill-Richmondville) tied the program's career wins record as the Le Moyne College softball team defeated Georgian Court University, 5-2, in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at GCU Softball Field 1. The Lions won the first game of the day, 1-0.
With a pair of strikeouts in her 100th career complete game, Harrison earned the 74th victory of her career to tie Marnie Sundberg '03 for the most wins in a career by a Dolphin.
The Dolphins scored the only runs they would need in the nightcap in the first inning on three hits and one Georgian Court error. Freshman shortstop Courtney Case (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) drew a walk to open the game and extend her streak of reaching base to 33 consecutive games, which ties Lindsay Spaziani '07 for the most by a Dolphin in the last 12 years. Senior second baseman Sarah Tram (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) followed with a bunt single to third base, while Case advanced to third on an error by the third baseman. After a walk by freshman center fielder Sabrina Riley (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) to load the bases and an out, junior catcher Kristie Capuano (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) singled to third base to drive in Case. After a line out, sophomore first baseman Cara Cawley (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) doubled down the right field line to knock in Tram, Riley and Capuano.
Le Moyne added one run on three hits in the fourth inning. Sophomore left fielder Allison Reynolds (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) led off with a single to center and then took second on a passed ball. After a double by Case, Reynolds scored on a single by Tram.
Georgian Court got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth on a pair of hits. Center fielder Dara Schroeder singled with two outs and then stole second base. Right fielder Alyssa Paradiso followed with a double to knock in Schroeder.
The Lions added one run in the seventh on three hits, but could not get closer. Schroeder reached on a bunt single with one out and then moved to second on a two-out single to left by shortstop Briana Molino. Third baseman Taylor McDonough then singled to drive in Schroeder. Harrison ended the rally by inducing a fly out.
Deanna Daluise took the loss for the Lions after giving up four runs on four hits in just one and one-third innings pitched.
In the opener, the Lions scored the only run of the game in the fourth inning on a leadoff home run to left field by McDonough.
Harrison was the tough-luck loser in the contest after yielding just the one run on six hits over six innings, while striking out seven batters. Case posted two of Le Moyne's six hits in the contest. Tina Morgan earned the win for Georgian Court after striking out seven, while recording six hits.
Le Moyne (23-14), which was slotted two spots behind the Lions (7th) in last week's NCAA East Region rankings, closes out the regular season with three games at Pace University on Friday (4:00 p.m.) and Saturday (12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.). Two wins by Le Moyne give the Dolphins the top seed in the Southwest Division of the Northeast-10 Conference and the right to host the conference championships next week.
