BASEBALL FALLS TO SAINT ROSE, 6-1, IN NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE OPENER

Albany, N.Y. – Coby Schwartz allowed just two hits to lead The College of Saint Rose to a 6-1 win over the Le Moyne College baseball team on Thursday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Bob Bellizzi Field.

The Golden Knights scored the only runs they would need on two hits in the third inning. Second baseman Ryan Hooker led off with a single to right and took second on a sacrifice bunt. After a walk by center fielder Derek Reed and a strikeout, designated hitter Scott Hladik doubled to right center to knock in Hooker and Reed.

Saint Rose (7-13, 3-0 NE-10) tripled its lead with four runs on three hits and a Le Moyne error in the fourth inning. Third baseman Tyler Ungerland and catcher Lukas Nethaway singled with one out and then Hooker was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Shortstop Mike Flynn then drew a walk to force in Ungerland. Reed followed with a groundout to second base to knock in Nethaway. Left fielder Nick Venier then singled to right field to drive in Hooker and Flynn.

The Dolphins pushed across their lone run without getting a hit in the seventh inning. Senior left fielder Nate Reynolds (Johnson City, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) drew a walk on five pitches to open the frame and then took second on a wild pitch. After moving to third on a groundout, Reynolds scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by sophomore Trey West (Fairport, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit).

Junior southpaw Ryan Davis (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) took the loss for the Dolphins after allowing six runs on six hits over six innings, while striking out 10. Junior third baseman Max Nagelsmith (Duanesburg, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy of Albany) registered two of Le Moyne's three hits in the game, including a double in the third inning. Schwartz allowed just the one run on two hits over seven innings, while recording three strikeouts.

Le Moyne (6-14, 0-1 NE-10), which was playing its first game in 16 days after having four games cancelled and three games postponed, returns to the diamond on Saturday for a doubleheader at Assumption College at 12:00 p.m.
