Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior attacker Sam Yaro (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) recorded five points to lead the ninth-ranked Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team to a 17-4 victory over Assumption College on Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.
After 12 and one-half minutes of scoreless action to start the game, the Dolphins scored seven straight goals over a span of six minutes and 29 seconds. Sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Armstrong (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) started the run by scoring from 10 yards out on the left side at the 17:27 mark after taking a pass from classmate Danielle Kealy (Lorraine, N.Y./South Jefferson). Just 30 seconds later, Yaro converted a free-position shot from the right side with a drive towards the left post. Following an Assumption turnover on a clear attempt, Kealy netted her third goal of the season with a low-bouncing shot from the right side with 15:37 left. Senior midfielder Victoria Nies (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) gave the Dolphins a 4-0 lead with 13:12 remaining by finishing off a pass from behind the net from graduate student attacker Marley Ciferri (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca/Syracuse) with a quick-stick shot from the crease. Just 49 seconds later, Ciferri recorded a quick-stick goal off a feed from behind the cage from Yaro, who then picked up her 14th goal of the campaign 28 seconds later after taking a pass near midfield off an Assumption timeout. Freshman midfielder Amari Pollard (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) capped the streak with an unassisted goal with 10:28 left after dodging from the top of the box.
Quincy Wilkins got the Greyhounds on the scoreboard with 9:03 remaining by sneaking a 10-yard shot inside the right post.
The Dolphins extended their lead to 12-1 with five goals over the final 5:50 of the half. Senior attacker Kathleen Conese (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) tallied her 13th marker of the year with 5:50 to go after cutting across the crease from the right side and taking a pass from the left side of the box from Ciferri. Only 54 seconds later, Armstrong posted a quick-stick goal from the edge of the crease after receiving a pass from behind the net from junior attacker Catie McKay (Penfield, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy). Yaro put the Dolphins into double-digits with 3:26 remaining after taking a pass in transition from freshman midfielder Vicki Graveline (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee), who picked up a loose ball after causing a turnover. Sophomore attacker Claire Monnat (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) recorded the final two goals of the half. The first came from the left crease with 2:11 left, while the second also was from the left edge of the crease with 25 seconds to go.
Le Moyne scored twice over the opening 5:40 to increase its lead to 13 goals. McKay netted her team's 13th goal by converting a free-position shot from the right side of the arc with 26:41 left. Conese then recorded a free-position goal from the right side with 24:20 remaining.
Following a save by junior goalkeeper Molly Marbut (Edgewater, Md./South River) on a free-position shot, Rebecca Cann swatted the ball out of the air and into the net with 20:54 left.
The Dolphins followed with a pair of goals to take a game-best 14-goal lead. Pollard scored in transition with 13:50 left, while Nies followed a point-blank save by Marbut with a free-position goal from the right alley with 9:08 to play.
Following alternating goals by Julianna Molloy with 7:31 left and Yaro with 6:11 remaining, Meg Curley ended the game's scoring with 1:38 to play by finishing off a feed from Lindsay Hagerman.
Marbut, who was making her season debut after being sidelined by a preseason injury, registered four saves, including three in the second half, to earn her 17t career victory between the pipes. Le Moyne's defense held Hagerman and Amy McNeil, who entered the game with a combined 51 goals and 83 points over 11 games, to just the one assist by Hagerman. Jaclyn Chirco suffered the loss for the Greyhounds after giving up 12 goals in the first half, while making three saves.
