BASEBALL REGISTERS 4-3 VICTORY OVER AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL

Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior southpaw Ryan Davis (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) struck out seven batters to lead the Le Moyne College baseball team to a 4-3 win over American International College on Friday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division action at Dick Rockwell Field.

The Dolphins took their first lead with two runs on three hits with two outs in the bottom of the first inning. Sophomore first baseman Pat Wright (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) singled to left field and then moved to third on a single to center by sophomore catcher Trey West (Fairport, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit). After West stole second, senior left fielder Nate Reynolds (Johnson City, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) singled to left center to knock in Wright and West.

American International took advantage of a Le Moyne error to score two runs in the second inning. With one out, right fielder David Kerlejza reached on a dropped line drive by the left fielder and then advanced to third on a single to right center by left fielder Tyler Geffert. After Geffert stole second, Kerlejza scored on a groundout by designated hitter Cam MacDonald. Second baseman Brett Bohl followed with a single to center to knock in Geffert.

The Yellow Jackets took the lead in the fourth inning following a pair of Le Moyne errors to start the inning. First baseman Lucas Vallas reached on a high throw by the third baseman to start the frame and then Kerlejza reached on a dropped fly ball by the right fielder down the line. Geffert then single to center to drive in Vallas. After a single to center by MacDonald to load the bases, Davis got out of the jam by striking out Bohl and inducing a double play.

Le Moyne knotted the score at three apiece in the bottom of the fourth on two hits. West led off with a single to center and then stole second base. After an out, freshman center fielder Donato DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day) singled to right field to plate West.

The Dolphins regained the lead in the fifth on one hit. Freshman third baseman Tyler Schmitt (West Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) led off with a single up the middle and then advanced to second on a balk. After stealing third base, Schmitt scored on a one-out sacrifice fly to left field by sophomore second baseman Brett Charbonneau (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker).

Davis held the Yellow Jackets off the scoreboard in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, while junior righty Conor Nolan (Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran) tossed a scoreless ninth inning to earn his second save of the season. Davis scattered seven hits to earn his second win of the year, while his three runs allowed were all unearned.
