VOLLEYBALL SPLITS WITH EAST STROUDSBURG AND WILMINGTON TO OPEN SEASON

East Stroudsburg, Pa. – Sophomore outside hitter Natalie Casson (Kingman, Ariz./Kingman) registered a pair of double-doubles to lead the Le Moyne College volleyball team to a split of two matches at the season-opening East Stroudsburg University Invitational on Saturday at Koehler Fieldhouse. The Dolphins fell in their season opener, 3-2, to host East Stroudsburg before knocking off Wilmington, 3-2, in their second match of the evening.

Against the host Warriors, the Dolphins dropped the first game, 25-21, but bounced back to post consecutive 25-23 wins to take a 2-1 lead in the match. East Stroudsburg evened the match at two apiece with a 25-16 win in the fourth game. The Warriors captured the decisive fifth game, 15-11, to take the match.

Sophomore outside hitter Andrea Buchanan (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) led the Dolphins offensively with 15 kills, one off her career high, while adding 14 digs. Casson recorded 11 kills and 12 digs for her double-double, while senior setter Megan Maisonet (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) was the third Dolphin to post a double-double with 44 assists and a team-best 15 digs. Sophomores Annie Stoklosa (Victor, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) and Maura Fay (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall) tallied 14 and 11 digs, respectively.

In the nightcap against Wilmington, the Wildcats opened the match by taking the first game, 25-22. Le Moyne answered with a 25-20 win in the second game and a 25-17 victory in game three. After Wilmington stayed alive in the match with a 25-22 win the fourth game, the Dolphins registered a 15-13 win in the fifth game.

Casson recorded her seventh career double-double with 20 kills, one shy of her career high, and 14 digs, while adding a pair of blocks. Buchanan posted her second double-double of the day with 12 kills and 14 digs, while Maisonet registered 42 assists, 13 digs, two service aces and two kills. Stoklosa led the Dolphins defensively with 23 kills, the second-best total of her career, while senior middle hitter Kristen Willets (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) was the third Dolphin with double-digit kills with 10.

Le Moyne (1-1) has two more matches at the ESU Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The Dolphins face Fairmont State at 2:00 p.m. and Bowie State at 6:00 p.m.
