East Stroudsburg, Pa. – The Le Moyne College volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win over Bowie State University on Sunday afternoon to earn a split on the final day of the East Stroudsburg University Invitational. In their first match of the day, the Dolphins fell to Fairmont State University, 3-1.
Against Bowie State, the Dolphins rolled to a 25-5 victory in the first set. The five points allowed are the fewest by the Dolphins in the seven years since NCAA volleyball scoring was dropped to 25 points to win a set. The previous low was eight, which most recently happened on October 29, 2011 at Saint Anselm College. Le Moyne took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-12 win and then closed out the victory by also taking the third set, 25-12.
Sophomore outside hitter
Natalie Casson (Kingman, Ariz./Kingman) led the Dolphins offensively with nine kills, while adding two service aces and two digs. Sophomore
Mackenzie Marple (Covington, Pa./Wellsboro) recorded five kills and a pair of assists in her first collegiate action, while freshman setter
Kendall Corcoran (Fort Salonga, N.Y./Kings Park) registered 22 assists, nine digs and three kills in her collegiate debut. Sophomore libero
Annie Stoklosa (Victor, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) led the Dolphins defensively with 14 digs.
In their first match of the afternoon, the Dolphins dropped the opening game, 25-17, to Fairmont State. Le Moyne responded with a 26-24 win in the second game to knot the match at one apiece. Fairmont State regained the lead with a 25-21 win in the third game, while capturing the match with a 25-12 victory in the fourth game.
Casson ran her season-opening streak of double-doubles to three by registering a team-high 13 kills and adding 11 digs, while posting a pair of service aces and one block. Senior setter
Megan Maisonet (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) had her third double-double in as many matches with 33 assists and a team-best 14 digs, while adding two kills and two service aces. Sophomore outside hitter
Andrea Buchanan (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) tallied 12 digs, nine kills and two assists.
Le Moyne (2-2) opens its nine-match home schedule on Wednesday against Roberts Wesleyan College at 6:00 p.m.
