REGIONALLY-RANKED MEN’S SOCCER WINS THIRD STRAIGHT, 3-0, OVER ASSUMPTION

Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior midfielder Rossel Cacho (Corozal La Ceiba, Honduras/Brighton (Mass.)/Bunker Hill C.C.) tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Assumption College on Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.

Le Moyne had the first scoring chance of the contest in the 23rd minute as sophomore midfielder Adam Resetarits (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) had a breakaway into the left side of the penalty box and fired a shot towards the far right post, but goalkeeper Dana King made a diving save to keep the game scoreless.

The Dolphins scored the only goal they would need 31:02 into the game. Resetarits carried the ball towards the endline on the left side of the penalty box before passing the ball across the top of the goal box. Cacho ran on to the ball and slotted it into the lower right corner of the net for his second goal as a Dolphin.

Neither team was able to put a shot on goal over the remaining 13:58 of the half.

Assumption had a chance to tie the score just over 10 minutes into the second stanza. Nemanja Kaurin blasted a shot from 28 yards out in the middle of the field, but it was saved at the goal line by sophomore goalkeeper Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute).

The Dolphins doubled their lead with 17:27 remaining in the game. From just above the top of the goal box, Cacho slipped a pass to his left to senior back Jack Ball (Sunbury, Middlesex/Bishop Wand/Bryant & Stratton), who was able knock the ball into the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season.

Le Moyne finished off the scoring with 5:45 left. Off a free kick from the middle of the field, redshirt sophomore midfielder Marcello Palucci (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep/Florida International) chipped the ball over the backline of the defense. Ball ran on to the loose ball and put it into the net for his first multi-goal game as a Dolphin.

Beaury registered two second-half saves to tally his sixth shutout and 10th victory of the season. With the 10 victories, Beaury becomes the first Le Moyne goalkeeper to record double-digit victories in his first two seasons after posting 12 as a freshman. King posted three saves in the loss for the Greyhounds. Le Moyne tallied an 11-7 advantage in shots, including 9-3 in the second half, while holding a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (10-4, 6-4 NE-10), which is ranked fifth in the first release of the NCAA East Region rankings, plays its final road contest of the regular season on Saturday at American International College at 6:00 p.m.
