Manchester, N.H. – Four players tallied at least eight kills to lead the Le Moyne College volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Southern New Hampshire University on Friday night in Northeast-10 Conference action at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
The Dolphins opened the match with a 25-22 win in the first set. Le Moyne jumped out to a 5-1 lead and pushed the advantage to 12-4. After the Dolphins took a 19-14 edge, Southern New Hampshire tallied five straight points to knot the score. Following a 21-21 tie, Le Moyne tallied three straight points and four of the last five for the win. Le Moyne doubled its lead in the match with a 25-18 victory in the second set. After the teams went back-and-forth over the first 30 points of the set, the Dolphins tallied six of the next eight points to force a Southern New Hampshire timeout. Following a point by the Penmen, the Dolphins tallied the last four points of the set. The Dolphins closed out the victory by taking the third set, 25-22. Le Moyne jumped out to a 7-3 lead and then saw its lead bounce between two and five points over the next 27 points. The Penmen then scored four straight points to get within 21-20. After three Le Moyne points to get within match, Southern New Hampshire posted back-to-back points to get within two, but Le Moyne landed a kill to end the match.
Junior outside hitter
Natalie Casson (Kingman, Ariz./Kingman) led the Dolphins with her 10th double-double of the season with 10 kills and 11 digs, while adding four service aces. Freshmen
Anna Hafoka (Hurst, Texas/L.D. Bell) and
Jessica Miller (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) each tallied eight kills, while Hafoka had three digs and two service aces and Miller tallied three digs and three blocks. Junior outside hitter
Andrea Buchanan (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) also posted eight kills with six digs. Sophomore setter
Kendall Corcoran (Fort Salonga, N.Y./Kings Park) directed the offense with 32 assists, while adding 10 digs for her seventh double-double of the campaign. Freshman libero
Mikayla Porr (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) led the Dolphins defensively with 20 digs.
Marisa Coronis led all players in the match with 11 kills after hitting .333. No other player on her team had more than four kills. Maeghan Higgins led the Penmen with 19 digs and Victoria Wehrmann tallied 10. Catherine Cotton dished out 20 assists and posted five digs.
Le Moyne (14-5, 5-2 NE-10), which snapped a three-match losing streak to the Penmen, is back in action on Saturday at Franklin Pierce University at 12:00 p.m.
