MEN’S TENNIS FALLS IN NE-10 OPENER TO BENTLEY, 7-2

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team fell in its Northeast-10 Conference opener, 7-2, to Bentley University on Sunday afternoon at the Skytop Tennis Courts.

The Falcons jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the match by winning the top two doubles matches. At the top spot, Brendan McCarthy and George Samander edged junior James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and sophomore Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds), 9-8. Kamil Pilch and Dylan Granat were victorious at the second spot, 8-6, over sophomore Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) and junior Steven Procopio (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt). Le Moyne earned its first point of the match at the third spot as freshman Tyler Underwood (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) and junior Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) defeated Brett Gilman and Felipe Palacios.

In singles action, McCarthy registered a 6-2, 6-2 win over Gayvert at the top spot, while Pilch was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Barton at the second position. Granat posted back-to-back scores of 6-3 to defeat redshirt senior Stephane Legris (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury/Adirondack C.C.) at fourth singles. Chase Rosa topped Procopio, 6-0, 6-2, at the fifth spot, while Michael Fuca recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win over Underwood at the sixth position. Doney earned Le Moyne's lone singles point with a 7-6, 6-5 win over Samander at the third spot.

Le Moyne (0-3, 0-1 NE-10) closes out the Fall season next Sunday against Merrimack College at 11:00 a.m. at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
