Pleasantville, N.Y. – Pace University scored eight of the last 10 points of the game to record a 60-55 victory over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
Senior guard
Vandell Andrade (Cranston, R.I./St. Mary's-Bay View/Rhode Island College) registered her third double-double of the season with game-highs of 27 points and 12 rebounds, while adding five assists and five steals. Senior forward
Maggie Brown (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) and freshman guard
Madison Purcell (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central) each tallied eight points in the contest.
Christina Rubin led three Setters in double digits with 11 points in 16 minutes off the bench. Yuni Sher and Shanice Maynard each recorded 10 points in the game, while Sher grabbed seven rebounds and dished out three assists and Maynard had four rebounds.
After Brown made a jumper to start the game's scoring, Pace rattled off the next nine points. Jaclyn Oskam made a three-pointer, Sher followed with a pair of baskets and then Rachel Dortch converted a lay-up.
Le Moyne answered with 12 consecutive points to take a 14-9 lead with 53 seconds left in the first period. Andrade scored six of the first seven points, sophomore forward
Courtney Webster (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) made two free throws and then freshman guard
Melanie Quijano (San Diego, Calif./Horizon Christian) drilled a three-pointer.
Kirsten Dodge made a lay-up with five seconds left in the period to pull the Setters within 14-11.
Purcell connected on back-to-back three-pointers to open the second period and extend Le Moyne's lead to a game-high nine points.
The Setters countered with nine straight points to even the score at 20 with 5:33 left. Oskam and Rubin made three-pointers and Dodge capped the streak with two free throws.
Le Moyne tallied four straight points and seven of the next nine to push its lead back to five. Andrade scored the first five points before Brown knocked down a jump shot.
After Pace got within one with 14 seconds left in the half, Andrade made a lay-up to give the Dolphins a 32-29 lead at halftime.
Following ties at 32 and 34 over the first 79 seconds of the third period, the Dolphins scored seven straight points for a 41-34 lead with 3:48 to go. Four different players accounted for the seven points.
After Pace got within three with 1:36 left on a pair of free throws by Rubin, Andrade recorded a conventional three-point play with 1:02 remaining. Dodge got the Setters within four at the end of the period with two free throws.
Following a lay-up by Brown to start the scoring in the final period, Pace scored 10 of the next 13 points to take the lead. Alexandra Monteleone started the run with a three-pointer, Geena Rosalbo followed with a lay-up and then Maynard countered an Andrade lay-up with a three-point play to tie the score at 50. After a Le Moyne free throw, Sher made a lay-up for the lead with 4:36 to go.
Andrade put the Dolphins back in front, 53-52, with 3:46 left, but the Dolphins went scoreless for the next three minutes. Oskam gave the lead back to the Setters with a lay-up with 2:03 left and Rosalbo extended it with two free throws with 1:33 to play. Following an Andrade lay-up with 48 seconds left to get the Dolphins within one, Sher made three free throws and Gabriella Rubin made one around three missed Le Moyne shots and a Dolphin turnover to close out the game.
