LINCOLN RECORDS 59-49 COME-FROM-BEHIND WIN OVER WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Syracuse, N.Y. – Courtney Smith and Amani Clark combined for 22 points in the fourth quarter to lead The Lincoln University to a 59-49 win over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Ted Grant Court.

Senior guard/forward Maggie Brown (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) led the Dolphins in the loss with nine points and nine rebounds. Sophomore forward Joanna Dobrovosky (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) recorded seven points, seven rebounds and a career-high four blocked shots. The Dolphins failed to have a double-digit scorer for the first time since January 25, 2012, a span of 103 games.

Smith finished the afternoon with a game-high 19 points, 12 of which she scored in the fourth quarter, while grabbing five rebounds and recording a pair of steals. Clark tallied 16 points, including 10 in the final period, while posting five steals and three rebounds.

After the teams split the game's first four points over 4:29, the Dolphins tallied seven straight points and 10 of the next 12 to take their largest lead of the game. Four Dolphins scored in the stretch, led by four points from Brown.

Clark hit a jumper from the right wing at the first-quarter buzzer for Lincoln's first field goal of the game and to pull the Lions within 12-6.

The Lions scored the first five points of the second quarter to get within one point with 6:54 left. Clark had the first four before De'jah Taylor made a free throw.

After senior guard Lauren Salzbrenner (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan North) hit a jumper with 5:04 left to put the Dolphins up 16-13, Lincoln tallied eight straight points in a span of 1:48. Four different players each made a shot in the paint in the run.

Sophomore forward Courtney Webster (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) made a jumper and Salzbrenner drained a three-pointer to knot the score at 21 with 1:25 left, but Smith answered with a three-pointer to give Lincoln a 24-21 lead at halftime.

After the Lions scored the first two points of the third quarter, Dobrovosky scored five straight points in 1:07 to tie the score at 26-apiece with 6:00 to go.

The teams then went back and forth the remainder of the quarter with the score being tied five times and the lead changing sides five times. Brown gave the Dolphins a 35-33 lead going into the fourth quarter by making two free throws with 20 seconds left.

Following ties at 36, 38, 42 and 44 over the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, the Lions outscored the Dolphins 15-5 over the final 3:25. After Salzbrenner hit a three-pointer with 3:00 left to give the Dolphins a 47-46 lead, the Dolphins would go 1-for-6 from the field and commit three turnovers over the last 2:24. Smith hit a three-pointer with 2:00 to give the Lions the lead for good and then Smith (6) and Clark (4) converted 10 straight free throws to close out the win.
