WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CLOSES OUT NON-CONFERENCE PLAY WITH 80-37 WIN OVER MANSFIELD

Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior guard Vandell Andrade (Cranston, R.I./St. Mary's-Bay View/Rhode Island College) registered her sixth double-double of the season to lead the Le Moyne College women's basketball team to an 80-37 victory over Mansfield University on Wednesday evening in non-conference action at Ted Grant Court.

The 43-point margin of victory is tied for the fourth-highest in the program's history and is the largest since a 58-point win (89-31) against D'Youville to open the 1990-91 season. The 37 points allowed are the fewest since a 51-37 win at Notre Dame College to open the 2011-12 season.

Andrade tallied 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds (five offensive) in 36 minutes of action, her highest total in four weeks. Senior guard/forward Maggie Brown (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) added her fourth double-double of the campaign with 13 points and 11 rebounds, including 10 of each in the first half, while posting three assists and two steals. Freshman guard Melanie Quijano (San Diego, Calif./Horizon Catholic) was the third Dolphin in double digits with 11 points.

The Mountaineers failed to put a player in double figures. Katie Fitzpatrick, Brielle Kelly and Becky Evans each posted eight points to lead Mansfield, while Kelly added six rebounds and Fitzpatrick pulled down five caroms.

After Mansfield scored four of the first six points of the game, the Dolphins scored 14 of the last 16 points of the first quarter. Five different Dolphins accounted for the 14 points, led by four points each from Brown and sophomore forward Joanna Dobrovosky (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles).

Andrade hit a three-pointer and Brown followed with a jumper to push Le Moyne's lead to 15 for the first time 1:37 into the second quarter. Following back-and-forth play over the next 7:16, the Dolphins tallied the last six points of the half to take a 35-15 lead into the intermission. Quijano nailed a three-pointer and then Andrade converted three free throws.

Following a lay-up by Fitzpatrick to get the Mountaineers within 19 with 7:24 left in the third, the Dolphins rattled off 13 of the next 15 points over 2:56 to take their first 30-point lead of the night. Quijano hit three-pointers on consecutive possessions in the span, while three other players also scored in the paint.

Mansfield closed within 24 at the end of three quarters with nine of the last 12 points of the quarter. Four Mountaineers combined for the nine points over the last 3:03.

The Dolphins scored the first 11 points of the fourth quarter en route to outscoring the Mountaineers 22-3 in the last period to deliver the final margin. Senior guard Lauren Salzbrenner (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan North) and sophomore forward Corinne Poitevien (Bardonia, N.Y./Paramus Catholic (N.J.)) each scored six points in the quarter, while Andrade added four points.

Le Moyne (4-7), which has recorded 10 of the program's 19 all-time 80-plus point games during head coach Gina Castelli's three seasons on the sideline, returns to Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday against Southern Connecticut State University at 12:00 p.m.
