WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CLINCHES NE-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS BERTH WITH 73-53 WIN AT SAINT ROSE

Albany, N.Y. – Senior forward Emily Greer (Corry, Pa./Corry) registered a double-double to lead the Le Moyne College women's basketball team to a 73-53 victory over The College of Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Nolan Gymnasium.

Greer, who registered her second straight double-double and fourth of the season, tallied 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds (seven in the first half), while dishing out four assists and posting two steals. Junior guard Vandell Andrade (Cranston, R.I./St. Mary's-Bay View/Rhode Island) led the Dolphins offensively with 21 points, while adding five rebounds. Senior guard Alex Marple (Covington, Pa./Wellsboro) recorded 13 points, grabbed two rebounds and handed out two assists.

Mariah Lesure led the Golden Knights in the setback with 23 points (19 in the first half), three rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals. Gabie Polce, who joined her program's 1000-point club on Wednesday, netted nine points as the team's next highest scorer.

The teams opened the game by trading baskets over the first five minutes, resulting in a 10-7 lead for the Golden Knights.

The Dolphins followed with 21 of the next 26 points, including 10 straight on the backend, to take a 13-point lead with 9:31 remaining. The Dolphins started the streak with five points on one possession as Greer nailed a three-pointer, while the Golden Knights committed a foul off the ball. Off the ensuing inbounds pass, Marple converted a lay-up for a 12-10 edge. Andrade, Marple and Greer each had four points the remainder of the 16-5 run, while junior forward Maggie Brown (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) had a lay-up and freshman forward Joanna Dobrovosky (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) made her first career basket.

Saint Rose countered with an 8-4 spurt to trim its deficit to single digits, but the Dolphins responded with a 7-2 jaunt to take their largest lead of the half. Lesure had eight of Saint Rose's 10 points over the combined streaks, while Andrade had six of the first eight Le Moyne points before senior forward Tessa Pucello (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay) buried a three-pointer from the left side for a 39-25 lead with 3:06 left.

The Golden Knights scored the next eight points to get within six before Marple beat the buzzer to give the Dolphins a 41-33 lead at halftime. Lesure made a lay-up and then Polce hit consecutive three-pointers for the Golden Knights.

Greer scored the first five points of the second half before Saint Rose answered with four points to get within single digits with 15:21 left.

The Dolphins ran off 15 of the next 19 points over 3:19 to take their first 20-point lead. Senior forward Bath-Sheba McMahon (Queens, N.Y./Grambling Laboratory (La.)/Weatherford College) ignited the run with a conventional three-point play, Greer followed with two free throws and then freshman guard Ellie Leszyk (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) drilled a three-pointer from the left corner off a kick out from Greer. After Marple made a jumper, Andrade tallied the last five points of the streak.

Saint Rose got within 17 on a pair of occasions before the Dolphins took their largest lead of the game, 73-51, with 1:01 left on a lay-up by Andrade.
