ANDRADE NETS 1000TH POINT AS WOMEN’S BASKETBALL IS EDGED BY GANNON, 74-71

Erie, Pa. – Mollie Sebald scored 16 second-half points to lead Gannon University to a 74-71 come-from-behind victory over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team on Tuesday evening in non-conference action at the Hammermill Center.

Senior forward Emily Greer (Corry, Pa./Corry) and junior guard Vandell Andrade (Cranston, R.I./St. Mary's-Bay View/Rhode Island College) each scored 17 points, while Greer grabbed nine rebounds and Andrade pulled down eight. With her last basket of the contest, Andrade tallied her 1000th collegiate point. She posted 650 points in her two years at Rhode Island College and has 350 points this year with the Dolphins. Senior guard Alex Marple (Covington, Pa./Wellsboro) was the third Dolphin in double figures with 14 points, while adding four assists before fouling out. With her final point of the game, Marple moved past Emily Anspach '96 and into eighth place on the program's career scoring chart with 1161 points.

Sebald finished the contest with a game-high 19 points and added three assists and a pair of rebounds. Brittany Batts tallied 16 points, six assists and four rebounds, while Nettie Blake recorded 15 points and a team-best six rebounds.

After Gannon scored the first four points of the game, the Dolphins rattled off 10 of the next 12 points to take a four-point lead with 15:20 left. Greer nailed two three-pointers in the streak, while Andrade made a pair of lay-ups.

The Golden Knights scored the next five points on a three-pointer by Batts and a fast-break lay-up by Blake before the Dolphins responded with six straight points to regain the lead. Following three free throws, junior guard Lauren Salzbrenner (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan North) drilled a three-pointer from the left wing to force a Gannon timeout with 11:16 left.

Following the Blake timeout to get the Golden Knights within three, the Dolphins tallied 11 of the next 15 points for their first double-digit lead of the contest with 7:55 remaining. After Andrade scored the first five points, Marple scored the next six.

Gannon, which has won 39 of its last 41 home games, cut its deficit in half with 6:32 to go in the stanza, but the Dolphins followed with seven straight points for their biggest lead of the half. Andrade made a jumper, senior forward Tessa Pucello (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay) nailed a three-pointer and then junior forward Maggie Brown (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) made two free throws.

The Golden Knights got within seven points on a pair of occasions, but sophomore guard Ailayia Demand (Watervliet, N.Y./Watervliet) hit a running shot from half court as the half expired to give the Dolphins a 42-32 lead at the intermission.

After Greer opened the scoring in the second half with a three-pointer from the left wing, the Golden Knights, who defeated the Dolphins, 74-43, in Syracuse last December, ran off 10 straight points over 2:06 to get within 45-42. Sebald nailed a pair of three-pointers around a lay-up, while Brianna Brennan added a fast-break lay-up.

The Dolphins scored eight of the next 12 points to push lead back to seven with 14:16 remaining. Marple scored the first four points as three Dolphins scored in the stretch.

Gannon responded with the next 14 points over 3:21 to reverse the game's seven-point margin. Five Golden Knights scored in the stretch, led by a game-tying three-pointer by Batts and a go-ahead three-point play by Sebald.

Le Moyne countered with seven of the next eight points to get within a point with 6:54 remaining. Greer made a lay-up and a three-pointer before Marple hit a jumper in the paint to make the score 61-60.

The Golden Knights answered with an 8-2 run over 1:58 to push their lead back to seven with 4:25 left. Blake had the first four points before Batts made two technical free throws and Blake added two more free throws at the same point in the game.

Andrade followed with a pair of baskets to get the Dolphins within one possession with 3:11 left.

After Batts and Marple traded free throws, Sebald hit a jumper from the left elbow as the shot clock expired for a five-point lead and then added a free throw 14 seconds later. Pucello then drained a three-pointer from the wing with 30 seconds to get the Dolphins back within three.

Following two missed free throws by Gannon, the Dolphins were able to get off two three-point attempts in the final 10 seconds, but the first was off the mark and the second got blocked.

Le Moyne (15-11), which wrapped up non-conference play with a 6-2 record, returns home to face American International College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the contest, the senior class of Greer, Marple, Pucello, Maddie Hahesy (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Bath-Sheba McMahon (Queens, N.Y./Grambling Laboratory (La.)/Weatherford College) will be honored by the Dolphin Athletic Association for their contributions to the program.
