MILLERSVILLE SWEEPS BASEBALL, 15-1, 13-5

Williamston, N.C. – First baseman Dan Stoltzfus had four hits and four runs batted in to lead Millersville University to a sweep of the Le Moyne College baseball team in a non-conference doubleheader at Skewarkee Park. The Marauders took the seven-inning opener 15-1 and posted a 13-5 win in the nine-inning nightcap.

Le Moyne got on the scoreboard first in the opener with a run without getting a hit. Sophomore center fielder Donato DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day) drew a walk to start the game and then moved to second on a hit batsman and took third on a Millersville error. DiNorcia then raced home on a wild pitch.

Millersville scored the only runs it would need on three hits and one Le Moyne error in the bottom of the first. Shortstop Tyler Orris singled to right to open frame and moved to third on a double down the left field line by right fielder Chas McCormick, while scoring on an error by the left fielder. Left fielder Jeremy Musser then singled to plate McCormick.

The Marauders added to their lead with five runs in each of the second and third innings. Musser drew a walk with the bases loaded to force in third baseman Tyler McDonald for the first run of the second inning. Stoltzfus then delivered a two-run double to left center to drive in Orris and McCormick, who reached on an error and a single, respectively. Designated hitter Luke Emling followed with a double to left center to knock in Musser and Stoltzfus.

In the third, second baseman David Summerfield led off with a home run to center field for the first of the five runs. Three batters later, Orris doubled to center to plate center fielder Dan Neff, who reached on a single to right field. Following a walk and an error, Stoltzfus drew a bases-loaded walk to force in Orris. Two batters later, catcher Mitch Stoltzfus reached on a throwing error with two outs, which allowed McCormick and Musser to score.

Millersville finished off the scoring in the game with three runs on two hits in the bottom of the sixth. Neff greeted a new Le Moyne pitcher with a solo home run to left to start the inning. Following a walk and a strikeout, Musser blasted a home run to center field.

Senior lefty Ryan Davis (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) suffered the loss for the Dolphins after giving up 10 runs (seven earned) on nine hits over two and one-third innings pitched. Chris Murphy earned the win for Millersville after yielding one run on three hits over five innings, while striking out seven batters.

In the nightcap, where the Dolphins served as the home team, Le Moyne started the scoring again with a run on two hits in the bottom of the first. DiNorcia led off with a double to left field and came around to score on a single to left field by junior catcher/designated hitter Trey West (Fairport, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit).

The teams each scored three runs on four hits in the second inning. In the top half, Mitch Stoltzfus led off with a double down the left field line, took third on a one-out wild pitch and then scored on a double to left center by McDonald. Two batters later, Orris doubled to right center to plate McDonald, while Orris came around to score on a single by McCormick.

In the bottom of the second, freshman left fielder JT Pittman (Ashland, Mass./Ashland/Bridgton Academy) singled through the left side to start the frame and then took second on a wild pitch. After a single by senior third baseman Max Nagelsmith (Duanesburg, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy-Albany), sophomore catcher Matt Buroni (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) lifted a sacrifice fly to left to plate Pittman. Two batters later, DiNorcia launched a two-run homer to center to give the lead back to the Dolphins.

Millersville regained the lead with three runs on four hits and one Le Moyne error in the top of the third. Dan Stoltzfus evened the game at four apiece with a solo home run to center to open the frame. Following two strikeouts and singles by Summerfield and McDonald, Neff reached on a bunt single to drive in Summerfield, while McDonald came around to score on a throwing error by the pitcher.

The Marauders blew the game open with seven runs on five hits and two Le Moyne errors in the sixth inning. After Neff reached on an error and Orris singled, McCormick doubled to left center to drive in the duo and knock Le Moyne's starter out of the game. Musser greeted the new pitcher with a single up the middle to knock in McCormick. Following a single and a Le Moyne error to load the bases, Mitch Stoltzfus lifted a sac fly to right to plate Musser. Two batters later, McDonald blasted a three-run homer to left center for a 13-4 lead.

The Dolphins completed the scoring in the game with a run on one hit in the bottom of the ninth inning. After freshman pinch-hitter Neil McCormack (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic) and DiNorcia drew two-out walks, junior second baseman Brett Charbonneau (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) singled to right field to drive in McCormack.

Sophomore righty Damian Powers (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) took the loss after allowing nine runs (seven earned) on 11 hits over five-plus innings, while striking out six. DiNorcia, Charbonneau, Pittman and Nagelsmith each had two of Le Moyne's nine hits. Brandon Miller picked up the win after giving up four runs on eight hits over six innings, while striking out six.
