BASEBALL RALLIES IN SECOND GAME TO EARN SPLIT WITH MOLLOY, 1-3, 3-2

Uniondale, N.Y. – Senior southpaw Bobby Renaud (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Onondaga C.C.) tossed a complete game three-hitter to lead the Le Moyne College baseball team to a 3-2 win over Molloy College in the second game of a doubleheader at Mitchel Field. The Lions took the opening game, 3-1.

Following three scoreless innings to start the second game, Molloy scored twice on three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Shortstop Deilyn Guzman walked with one out and then stole second base. After an out, first baseman Michael Rahn singled to center to drive in Guzman. Following a single through the left side by left fielder John Galanoudis, right fielder Elijan Leerdam singled to left field to knock in Rahn.

Le Moyne answered back with two runs on two hits and a Molloy error in the fifth. Redshirt sophomore right fielder Mark Martin (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley/Bryant) walked to open the frame, stole second and then took third on a throwing error by the first baseman. Junior shortstop Dylan Swetman (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) followed with a ground-rule double to drive in Martin. Following an out and a single to left center by senior center fielder Jeremy Mathers (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger/Onondaga C.C.), freshman designated hitter Brian Cox (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Swetman with the tying run.

The Dolphins took the lead in the sixth without needing a hit. Junior designated hitter/catcher Trey West (Fairport, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) walked to open the inning, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and then took third on a wild pitch. Freshman left fielder JT Pittman (Ashland, Mass./Ashland/Bridgton Academy) followed with a sacrifice fly to left to drive in West.

Renaud struck out six batters in his longest start as a Dolphin to earn his first victory of the season, while yielding just two runs on three hits and one walk. Anthony Catinella took the loss for the Lions after giving up the run in the sixth inning.

In the first game of the day, Molloy scored first with one run on two hits in the second inning. Rahn and Galanoudis opened the frame with singles to center field. After an out, right fielder Anthony Alberghina grounded out to Swetman to drive in Rahn.

The Lions doubled their lead with one run on two hits in the bottom of the fifth. First baseman Angelo Navetta led off with a double to left field and came around to score on a single up the middle by Alberghina.

Molloy added an insurance run on one hit in the sixth. Guzman tripled to right field to start the inning and scored with one out on a ground out to third base by Rahn.

The Dolphins scored once in the seventh inning on one hit and a Molloy error, but were unable to get the tying run on base. Cox drew a walk to open the inning and then advanced to third with two outs on a throwing error by the pitcher on a pickoff attempt. West then singled to left center to drive in Cox, but was stranded at first.

Redshirt sophomore righty Ryan O'Kane (Memphis, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) suffered the loss in his first start of the season after yielding three runs on five hits, while striking out six in going the distance on the mound. Sean Gordon earned the win by tossing two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, while striking out two batters. Alex Brosnan earned his first save of the year.

Le Moyne (4-7), which is 2-3 so far on its 11-game, eight-day Spring Break road trip, faces Philadelphia University in a doubleheader on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Father Judge High School's Ramp Athletic Field Complex.
